It works! Thank you very much... I think I was really tired yesterday
 evening ;-)

As I still grab the mic, another question: vi has now been embedded
in the system, but with only few commands available. For example, u
to undo a command does not work, and :set is not available so I'm
not able to set vi as nocompatible. Any advice on this? Any plans
to port a more fully functional release? TIA.

People were porting vim to OS2006. Check
http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006

I see a vim 7.0 port there.

(By the way, multi-level undo, :set nocompatible and a large bunch of
other options are vim extensions that were not present in the original
vi.)

Cool. Does it also recode ISO10646-1 pcf files into the funny
permutations and subsets used a long time ago in a galaxy far far away

[maemo-users] How to quit X server and to use Frame Buffer ?

2006-06-15 Thread Bongadam
Hello,

I'm trying to quit X server to launch a stand alone
application on the frame buffer.

When I execute '/etc/init.d/x-server.sh stop', GUI is
freezing, but after few seconds, the N770 is rebooting. If I
kill Xomap process, the result is the same (reboot).
I suppressed link to x-server.sh in the /etc/rc?.d folder. At
the boot time, the gui is not launched but a reboot always
occurs after a few seconds.

It seems dsme tool can be useful, but I don't know how (a
'x-server.sh stop' performs a 'dsmetool -k /usr/bin/Xomap
$EXTROPT -mouse /dev/input/event0 -pi $DISPLAY_DPI').

Have you a solution to quit X server and to use application on
frame buffer?

Thanks and regards,

Damien

I guess that the reboot happened because the GUI programs depending on
the X server crashed. So, you should probably first stop all the
dependent processes, and lastly the X server. Looking at the /etc/rc0.d
directory might give you hints about the startup scripts to use.

[maemo-users] do I need an invitation for GoogleTalk?

2006-06-15 Thread Armin M. Warda
  Hi,

I have upgraded to IT2006 Beta. I haven't yet a GMail account.
And I am living in in Germany.

Do I need an invitation by a GMail user to register for GoogleTalk?

  regards, Armin.

Solved: I got an invitation.

BTW, at least in the United States you can get Google to send an invitation
code to your mobile phone via text message/SMS.

Also, you can use jabber. Its compatable with google-talk and voip
works. No invitation is needed, you can even register from the 770 chat
applet.

[maemo-users] bluetooth connected phone not accessible in file manager?

2006-06-15 Thread Bill q
Connecting tomy N80 for EDGE/UMTS was easy enough but I can't seem to get file access to work though.

It shows up greyed out in the file manager.AlternativelyI can't push files to the 770 as it seems to run in invisible mode.

You're right: more and more apps for OS2006! Thank you, I'm going to
test it now.

Yes, I know! But Nokia 770 is an option that wasn't present in my
original life... and I can't live w/o it ;-)
