boot problem

2007-03-04 Thread Stefan Englhardt

Hi,

I've a power outage of my N800. Since that the device needs
very long to start (30min). The Nokia Screen apears, the blue bar
at the bottom goes 100% right. And then I've to wait for a very long time.

Looking at Kernel messages it seems that jffs has a problem.

How can I repair the filesystem?? No fsck-like tool??

Stefan

Thank you

dropbear quirk

2007-03-04 Thread Andrea Trentini

I had a problem with dropbear, it's not a real bug
so I'm telling about it here...

I updated dropbear (0.49) and my N800 stopped booting!

It showed the boot progress bar and then nothing.
Some analysis showed that the dropbear daemon
starting at S20 (in /etc/rc2.d) it's too early
(my hypothesis) and blocks, thus blocking the whole
boot (actually the starting af all services) process.

By placing dropbear at S99 resolved everything :)

Bye

Re: Photo capability using N800 Camera? = Knips

2007-03-04 Thread Tim Teulings
Hallo!

I just released Knips. Knips is a simple photo taking application
based on libIllumination.

This is currently a very simple application (in fact there is a X11
crash during shutdown that appears only on the real device :-/).

I see further improvements in the following areas which I might add in
the next time):
* Enlarge the Knips button (place it to the right of the video image?).
* React on camera in/out events to start stop video streaming.
* Add some sound (needs some improvements in Illumination).
* Improved visual feedback on photo taking.
* Some online help and about dialog.
* Creating videos instead of still images (low priority).

..but nevertheless it works. See
http://test.maemo.org/downloads/product/knips for details.

I'm also looking for some possible volunteer to improve the application
(I would give access to the www.sf.net subversion repository). But note
that this does not use Gtk but my own GUI library (which should not be a
problem IMHO)!

Have fun!

I don't think there are any man pages on the device, so a man command itself
wouldn't help.

I always google man command and find an online manpage when I'm using my

I have fixed that a few minutes ago. Thanks for hinting at!

I did not know this. I would suggest that every garage developer, who
has a *working* application, also registers his project in the

good work on the vkb info in

It still is not perfect. I would be very happy if somebody would release
more infos regarding the undentified requests and flags.

Does maemo-launcher require a specially patched Pango?

2007-03-04 Thread Matt Hoosier

Hi,

I'm attempting to use maemo-launcher on some generic ARM embedded
hardware which doesn't run the full Maemo library stack, and I've run
into a couple of problems.

First, there's the bug about gdk_display_close() which is mentioned in
the README file, which results in the daemon process crashing as it
tries to run the Gtk booster. The underlying GDK bug is fixed in
upstream Gtk+ = 2.10.

There's also something strange happening to the forked child
processes. The symptom when one executes the 'gtk-demo' program
(relinked to export its 'main' symbol):

N800 hangs at the end of startup sequence

Hi people

My N800 went nuts. When I turn it on, the blue bar at the bottom goes
all the way from the left to the right - and nothing happens then. The
Home screen does not appear. Is there any way I could debug this
situation - or I just have to reflash the OS? The device was never put
into development mode, some software from public repositories was
installed. The battary is fully charged. I tried to add/remove SD
cards - no visible effect.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Hi,

Apparently there was an error in the recent dropbear update. It is
waiting for random key presses to get some entropy. Hit the keys like
crazy and it'll boot up.

Re: man command?

2007-03-04 Thread Amichai Rotman

Andrea,

You could check out the Plucker Viewer - by Kernel Concepts (available from
the Kernel Concept repo through the Application Installer):

http://oss.kernelconcepts.de/maemo/plucker.shtml

You can then download all the man pages you want from the LDP in plucker
format from:

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/LDP/pluckerdb/

So you can read them on the move - if you haven't got an active link to the
web...

Cheers,

Amichai.

Could you please describe a bit better what you want? An installable
man application so you could read man pages on the device?

yes, sorry for not being detailed ;)

a 'man' command to read many manpages actually
present on disk

Re: WLAN Power Save Mode timeout

770 uses WLAN PSM but it doesn't have the gconf key for changing the
value. It has 1000 ms timeout hardcoded. But I guess you could take
the osso-wlan sources and change the hardcoded value in wlancond.

Can we get the gconf key added for the next release of OS2006?

FWIW just tried this with OS2007 on 770 and it seems to work. At least
dmesg prints 'PSM timeout 200 ms' when connection is opened.

Really? I remember that we only added it to N800. Oh well, I'm glad
that I was wrong :)

Re: Does maemo-launcher require a specially patched Pango?
