Reading your Bluetooth DUN comment... I was on the train home tonight tapping madly on my bluetooth keyboard and N800 wondering whether I'd be able to that with the iPhone. Other than headset,we have no info - at least for another 1.5 days. N800 with FON wireless router
Hi Folks, I reflashed my Fon wireless router with dd-wrt and am using WPA2 encryption between my N800 and the FON, except the N800 as soon as it connects to the Fon crashes and reboots, time after time. So are there issues with WPA2? Regards, Brenton Bills. ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

ATT has a 5 YEAR deal ... pretty major. It's posible (my theory) that quite a bit can be upgraded and tweaked with software updates rather than a hardware re-sell. You have to buy a 2 yr contract and it's currently only EDGE capable, but it apparently auto-detects and auto-switches to known wifi when it sees them which is pretty awesome. Kevin, and it looks like Apple, has, in fact,. "bent the pins", on this device, moreso than on , say Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0, or 6.0 based devices (which are in fact quite user extensible, witness the software product portfolio available at handago) by dis-allowing the user from installing arbitrary software "apps" on it. This product is driven as much by the itunes business model (ipod = high class razor, tunes = blade) than anything else. ATT and Apple can now "collaborate" on extending Itunes dominance to other forms of media content. I would be interested to know how long ATT is going to have exclusivity on the Iphone. If it is more than say 6 months, then that will give iphone competitors time to sell/design/build competing solutions to the other mobile service providers, which they, are probably already doing. I'm really interested in the platform library upgrades, such as GTK+, cairo, and so on. It's becoming more and more difficult to keep the latest version of desktop based applications ported to Maemo, since we are stuck with old version of core libraries that must not be upgraded. I've been using sardine in scratchbox for some time now and the results are quite promising. I'm waiting to get a > 2 GB SD card to get sardine also installed in my device. Some Data Backed Commentary in the midst of this week's Blather about the Iphone
All, fyi. Here are two articles that provide some data (or at least usage) backed commentary on the Iphone: http://www.parksassociates.com/free_data/downloads/parks-iPhone.pdf The above document is free but requires registration. And this from Walt Mossberg at the WSJ who has also reviewed the Nokia N800: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB118289311361649057.html?mod=hps_us_inside_today In his words, "Our verdict is that, despite some flaws and feature omissions, the iPhone is, on balance, a beautiful and breakthrough handheld computer. Its software, especially, sets a new bar for the smart-phone industry, and its clever finger-touch interface, which dispenses with a stylus and most buttons, works well, though it sometimes adds steps to common functions." -- Best Regards, John Holmblad Acadia Secure Networks ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

I am sure > they'll fix it - actually I wonder if anyone has complained - er - > filed a bug on that? Same with the 770. I am runing the version 3 beta client on my tablet and it exhiits this problem. Outbound calls sound great, according to my parents. There are a couple posts in the forums; I am not aware as to whether or not they have any sort of Bugtraq for that project. Apparently, it works just fine if you do not have the call screening feature enabled. You can achieve this by either paying for the basic version of the 775 number, or getting one of their call-in numbers. I think I am going to try it, as $4/mo is not that bad for inbound calls. I am not trying to get free calls. But, I am not much of a phone user, and when I do use it, with the exception of the car, I tend to be near a wi-fi connection. What I like about Gizmo is the pricing structure fits a user with my profile, but mostly I like the idea or it as a home phone replacement, but a replacement that also fills the role of my mobile phone at least 50% of the time, as well. The other feature that is great is that if I forget my phone, this makes for a great backup, whether I am at my laptop, have my 770, or am at a work desktop. So, one question: Is this headset y'all mentioned available for the 770? Or just the 800? thanks, Kevin -- In Vino Veritas http://astroturfgarden.com signature.asc Description: Digital signature ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

The current Gizmo version's keypad doesn't work on the n800, and to accept an incoming call you need the keypad... doh... I am sure they'll fix it - actually I wonder if anyone has complained - er - filed a bug on that? BT headsets are not supported on the n800. BT Keyboards are officially supported. You can use the supplied head set, which has a built-in mic - it works quite well. > > While we are on the subject of using the Internet Tablet as a phone, can > > anyone tell me (or point me to some good how-to/wiki pages) how they do it? > > I just signed up for and installed the Gizmo client today. Re: When are we to expect the next update for the N800 from Nokia?
You need to really use the headset to get the most from it though speakerphone works fine too - at least in my experience. Gizmo is great since it lets you call phones, but the Google Talk app on the tablet also works very well if your contacts have an account. On 6/25/07, Kevin T. Better would be to write a GTK+ printing backend that handles SPP (Simple Printing Profile), so there's no need to have CUPS and drivers is what is a size-limited device. -- Bastien Nocera <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
(bluetooth?) printing
I need to print documents from Nokia N800 using Bluetooth or USB connection (from my own application or using any existing tool). Looked maemo.org through but couldn't find any application that could print. I also checked out the mailing lists archive but could only find printing in a wishlist of 2006. Did anything change? As far as I know, printing in Linux is performed via CUPS. I found that there is bluez-cups v. 3.7osso11 and blueztools - could I try writing an application to print to printers via Bluetooth using this lib? Is there any example of such an application? I actually plan to port my .Net Compact Framework application using Mono. On a Windows Mobile device I used a library that performed low-level data transmission for several printer models, e.g. for all HP printer supporting PCL. Maybe there is some low-level driver for such printers for Linux too? ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
