Yeah - when my idle N800 2007.whatever lost all charge in

constant 3% CPU. Top (or htop, if you have it) is worth a look
 to check for such things.

That bug indicates that the issue is closed and it is fixed. I
certainly isn't on my end. I ended up getting the firmware from the
torrent and I have been trying to install Canola2 for a day now and
contantly getting these errors still. As others have mentioned on the
list, the problems seem to come from the repository server not sending
back a proper http error code but rather sends back some html with a
message which apt dutifully caches for the package transaction and the
 result is installation brokenness.

I have opened a new bugzilla for the repository situation:

 https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2635

 Feel free to vote/add info.

Doesn't look like anyone is going to fix this problem until everyone returns
from vacation, either after Christmas or worst case, after New Year. This means
the situation will have been allowed to continue without official comment or
any apparent attempt to resolve it for between 8 and 14 days!

I wonder how many N8x0's will be given as gifts this Christmas, and how many
recipients will be disappointed by the constant inability to download new
software? What a great first experience this is going to be! I'm sure that more
than a few devices will be returned as unwanted gifts as a result of this poor
end user experience.

As for Canola, why did the iNDT guys bust a gut to get their software out
there? Hardly anyone can now download it - that's a crying shame for all their
hard work and effort, only to be undermined by poor management resourcing
decisions back in Finland.

Please maemo Nokia, in future don't *ever* release another firmware update
without ensuring adequate support is on-site and available during the first
week following release. This situation must never be allowed to happen again. I
know that's going to be tough to organise and may upset some of your people,
but these are the sacrifices that employees of real businesses have to make
when rolling out new software. In my world, if this situation had been allowed
to happen I'd be out of a job.

I closed this as there was already a bug open:

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2620

However, not everyone's transferred their votes from #2635 to #2620
yet. This doesn't happen automatically.

As Neil says, this is a pretty shoddy situation, and a really
disappointing end to the year.

Cheers,

Andrew

Re: help!? my N810 seems dead(ish)

2007-12-23 Thread Jesper Cheetah
Ah yes, the fragile charger cable.. I think my charger lasted no longer
than a month before it stopped working. Possibly due to the wear and
tear of bringing it with me to and from work in a pocket every day, but
really that shouldn't be a problem? I used the N800 a _lot_ so I didn't
have time to deal with return services, and just bought a new one in the
nearest phone shop. The exact same model, which I now leave at home as
much as possible..

A few days after that, I had figured out that the problem was in the
cable, no more than a few cm from the charger. Snipped off the charger
and spliced the good end with a USB cable - Tada, instant DIY combined
USB charger and data cable :)

Works well, though it seems that the voltage or current delivered by USB
isn't quite as high as the real charger. Sometimes, when the battery
is really low, this makes the N800 refuse to charge, so I still need to
bring the real charger when traveling or using the N800 for critical
applications.

Garnet VM hotsync with linux/pilot-csd

2007-12-23 Thread Steve Greenland
Summary; anyone made this work?

Wireshark says that Garnet is attempting to connect to my PC on
tcp/14238. Netstat says that pilot-csd is listening on udp/14237. There
doesn't seem to be any options on either side to make them match up.

I have been trying everything I can think of to manually download all

Is there not a mirror of repository.maemo.org somewhere? Is it rsync-able?
