N900: unable to play some mms:// streams

2009-12-02 Thread Alessandro Pasotti
Hello,

I'm not sure this is a bug... here is the story.

In order to watch italian national TV, a linux user must do funny things,
like parsing the page, downloading relinkers and extract the real mms url.
I have a script that makes this and produces a page with mms://... links and
embedded objects.

An example link is (don't try, it won't work, see later):
mms://
livestream.rai.it.edgestreams.net/reflector:64084?auth=daEbvdZaNa9a6cvdxa9bsbQb7d7ala4dmcG-blfNNo-b4-BmsuAEo&aifp=V001

The links contains an auth token that changes every ~ 60 seconds.

This works fine from:

* ubuntu FF via mplayer plugin
* ubuntu with Chrome via Totem
* ubuntu xterm with mplayer
* N900 xterm with the following command:
 gst-launch playbin uri=mms://
livestream.rai.it.edgestreams.net/reflector:64084?auth=daEbvdZaNa9a6cvdxa9bsbQb7d7ala4dmcG-blfNNo-b4-BmsuAEo&aifp=V001

But if I try to open the link from the generated page (the generate page
with the mms link and the embedded object) using N900 browser all I get from
the media player is "Nessuna connessione al server" (translates to "No
connection to server")

So, it seems like N900 gstreamer is able to play the stream without problems
but the mediaplayer doesn't.

Should I file a bug ?

Re: IT2007 Hacker Edition - First impression

Michael Wiktowy wrote:

What are your numbers of hours/days approximately before and after? I
haven't noticed anything. Power consumption was great with IT2006 and is
also with IT2007. I'm using n770 less then before since now have n800
too and it lasts couple of days with closed cover which is similar/same
like with IT2006. Also I changed WLAN PSM timeout to 200ms in OS2007 on
n770 so maybe it is even better for networking then with OS2006. I'm
using it (when being user, not developer) mainly for browsing, internet
radio, scummvm and e-books.

BTW, do you have any media on MMC card? Do you remove the card often?
The metalayer-crawler goodie in IT2007 can take up lot of CPU when
inserting card or even hang taking up CPU with some specific media on
the card. I have rootfs on MMC so I hardly ever remove the card and also
have almost no media files there.

Frantisek

I've been using OS2007 HE during the last 5 weeks.

I've also noticed a reduced battery duration (never changed my MMC), but
this could be the wifi, since even with cover on it doesn't stop??

Other issues are the stability (some reboots, expecially right after
removing the cover or playing sounds) and some BT keyboard SU-8W shortcuts
not being recognized (same setting on N800 works fine).

BTW I will not switch back to OS2006, keep on with HE, please.

Just a 'me too'. I notice this happening about 3 nights out of 4. At
night I always switch off the N800. In the morning, when I pack my bag
for the day I tap the screen to see if it is still off. Then switch it
off at that time if it is.

I was beginning to wonder if it was just me. It usually is.

Anyhow, I have also checked to make sure that there is no alarm set
either.

Perhaps it's a very geeky solution but sqlite could be a good database
choice, it's portable, runs on the tablet and phpmysqliteadmin can run
with ngnix + php5 right now on the tablet.

Having php on the tablet opens a lot of interesting opportunities.

I installed maemo-mapper on IT2007 and it works fine.

You need to install libsqlite0 from the maemo repository otherwise you have

Re: [maemo-users] Built-in Media Player is also a UPnP streamer?

2007-01-30 Thread Alessandro Pasotti

2007/1/30, Jonathan Greene <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

agreed - MediaStreamer is far better -- but without playlist support /
control it's kind of pain to return where you left off each time.
There's also no way to just play a folder of files - manually loading
each one is also a bit lame. That said, if you have the right
formats, it's quite cool to be streaming your content to your palm
from the network.

Don't know on 800 (I'm just waiting it for delivery) but on 770 to play all
files in a folder you could just open the folder in filemanager, select all
files and choose open from the menu.

Re: [maemo-users] Flipping the screen

Short answer: no.

This has been discussed before, there is also a bug in the bug tracking
system (go vote for that).

https://maemo.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=100

You don't have many options, xrandr might work. BTW some applications like
fbreader supports this natively.

Does it happen consistently for you?
Well, after rebooting I also cannot reproduce it anymore...
It happened twice, both the times I was just surfing the web and using fbreader when I closed the cover. The first time it happened incidentally, it was in the evening, so at 4 AM it ran out of battery and started making beeps, it woke me up indeed, the cover was on.
The second time I did it intentionally following the procedure described above.

Are you playing an audio stream or accessing the network in some otherway?  The first time I was listening to a radio stream, but I am pretty sure I switched it off before putting the cover on.
Do you have any third-party apps installed?
Yes, a lot. But none of them except fbreader was (apparently) running (maybe in the background after an unclean exit, who can say, I did'nt  run a ps).
I'll keep investingating to see if I can reproduce it again.Alessandro.

[maemo-users] best approach installing deb pkgs

2006-03-29 Thread Alessandro Pasotti
Hello,

I'm new to this list and a very newbie with the 770.

Does anybody have any suggestion about the best approach installing packages
on the 770?

I mean, if you install through the application manager, everything goes
in /var/lib/install.

This is ok, I added these dirs to the path in /etc/profile and|or various
bashrc config files, but what about libraries not found?

Should I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH?

Or a best approach would be installing by hand with dpkg -x ?

Any hints are welcome.

Have a nice day!
