I experienced same thing here yesterday, no user applications running,
but it's slow and memory usage is high, swap in use etc. CPU usage was
not happening, it just didn't have enough RAM. I didn't take the time
to investigate it much, because I was in a hurry and the phone was so
slow, i just shutdown and rebooted and it was back to normal. If it
happens again I'll try to give more attention to what could be eating
 the memory.

Re: N900 Users

2009-10-19 Thread Ove Nordström
I changed 0.5 h after I got it from my Nokia E75, I can't go back. I
think it is the best device I had have.
It is so great, I love it. Big big improvement since Nokia N810. Of
course Maemo 5 and N900 will be improved during the time, Nokia made
this clear. But I think it is good enough for me, it is even better
than I thought. One thing I would like to see soon is support for PIM
synchronization with Mac OS X.

It is always nice to hear from actual users.

Is the software on it complete, or is it crippled like previous systems?
I am curious as to such things as the address book, calendar, to-do
list, even the native email client.

Any other interesting finds with the N900?
Was it worth the price, and are you using it as part of a carrier
 service, or not?

Re: unable to install passwordSafe

2009-01-19 Thread Ove Nordström
Hi,
Thanks it works (I enable the Extras Devel repository)!!

I agree it's not very polished (e.g. double-clicking is *very* finicky and
doesn't follow the Maemo convention of single-tapping an already
selected item to activate it), but I have also used for months and it works
well.

  Why?

Apparently pwsafe was only available from Diablo Extras-devel, while the
.install file in the maemo.org/downloads site wanted to get it from
 Extras.

I've promoted pwsafe from Extras-devel to Extras, it should become
 installable soon.

It's not very polished (e.g. double-clicking is *very* finicky and
doesn't follow the Maemo convention of single-tapping an already

 using it for months.

So, summary: wait a bit and try again. Alternatively (if you don't want
to wait), enable the Extras Devel repository, described here:
 http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras#Extras-devel

I think support for javaME/CLDC1.1/MIDP2.0 is what we need first because there
are lot of applications out there already. I would like for example to be able
to run the javaME gmail client on my nokia N810.

Next step would be add support for javaME/CDC1.1/FP1.1 + AWT (PP1.1) + eSWT

I would LOVE to run on my N800 and N770. Java seems perfect for this

I installed Jalimo which is fine if you just want to run java from the
 command-line (no graphics).
Jalimo contains also SWT packages, for nice GUIs with native look and feel.

I use it all the time to run Saxon (XSLT)
 and it's slow but stable.

I asked about Java in Oct but only got answers about Jalimo and PhoneME.
Unfortunately the PhoneME distributions (including the binary pointed
to on the page Ove suggested) don't appear to contain a program called
java. There is something called bin/cvm in there but I have no idea if
 this does anything useful.

It would be nice if someone could locate a java plugin for the N800
browser. Currently a lot of web sites with java features are off-limits.
