Re: Can't Wifi since loading OS2008

I'm not sure when the connection started working again, but I did reboot the N800 and the WRT when I was experiencing the problem. The WRT has Linksys firmware. I upgraded the firmware about a year ago. I had no problem with the connection for months. The only thing that changed was the upgrade to OS2008. I do not remember what channel the AP is configured to and I am not at that location now so I can't check. At my current location I am also not experiencing any problems. When I return to my previous location, I will report if I again experience problems. -- Jeffrey Barish ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

I have seen cases where people have forgotten that AP uses hidden SSID and our UI does not show hidden SSIDs so they just think something is broken. In that case the user has to create the connection manually through Connectivity Control Panel Applet. But my recommendation is not to use hidden SSID. It does not improve security in any way and makes more difficult to implement WLAN drivers (scanning is more complicated etc.). Jeffrey, I'm also interested details about your AP and it's settings. Please describe more about your setup. -- Kalle Valo ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users

Yes, but if a SSID is hidden, well from my point of view there is no reason to *have* to show it in available networks list ;) If you have an AP not broadcasting SSID, simply create a new connection by hand. That's it. I tried deleting the connection. Either way, my network does not appear under Select connection -- at this moment. The connection worked fine yesterday and the day before. Once today it did appear and I was able to make a connection, but I still could not use it. I got network not reachable when I tried to ping and under ifconfig I saw only lo. Right now I am able to connect to a neighbor's WAP and access the Internet (and I still see only lo under ifconfig), but I do not see my own WAP. When I was at CES I was able to connect to many WAPs, but I was never able to access the Internet (server not found, which means that I was not getting DNS). Any idea what is going on? I guess the first mystery to solve is why I don't see my own WAP under Select connections (usually). Perhaps you checked already, but is your WAP broadcasting SSID? Is it working fine with any otherm device? Bye William ___ maemo-users mailing list maemo-users@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-users
