[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 843819] [NEW] Ability to select files from your repository when adding image within a textbox

2011-09-07 Thread William Mair
Public bug reported:

At the moment, you can only add your images into a text block by copying
the link location of the file in your repository and then pasting this
into the URL box.

A document that I am trying to mimic (effectively taking material out of
a Word document and trying to recreate in Mahara) has 15 images in it
and having to copy/paste that will put students off using it. If they
had the ability to insert image, then select from a list of images this
would be so much nicer for the users and a lot faster too.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 721496] Re: Using pChart as framework for rendering graphs in Mahara

2011-09-07 Thread François Marier
While reviewing the license for this library, I found this page:

  http://www.pchart.net/license

which claims that it is under the GPLv3 but then adds a contradictory
statement that say that it's not for commercial use unless you get a
separate license.

Therefore it is not Open Source and we cannot use it in Mahara.

As discussed at 4th Developer Meeting - pChart may be a suitable
framework for rendering graphs in Mahara, e.g. in the admin section.

  Available at http://www.pchart.net/
  Documentation (with examples) at http://wiki.pchart.net/

pChart is a PHP framework that will help you to create anti-aliased
charts or pictures directly from your web server. You can then display
the result in the client browser, sent it by mail or insert it into
  PDFs.

pChart is released under two licensing models. If your application is
freely distributed and meet the GPL requirements, you can use pChart
for free under the the GNU GPLv3 license.

Add help text for finding place to set secreturls (Bug #823789)

When the view acl screen was changed to streamline the setting of
access permissions to multiple views/collections at once, secreturls
moved out of this screen. As it is still in the share tab, it is not
obvious to users that they should return to the list of views and
collections to find the secreturl screen. This text guides them there
with a handy link and explanation of the screens.

What's worse is that this code in logout() doesn't really serve any

In all seriousness, Mahara could help change/improve habits by
suggesting what Randall describes. I propose that we don't merely reduce
the minimum length and drop numbers requirements. I suggest that when we
change the policy, we also offer alternative password guidelines in text
alongside the password change fields.

Title:
Add SSL reverse proxy support like ssl_proxy in Moodle

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Mahara needs to have SSL reverse proxy support like Moodle does using
ssl_proxy. All versions of Mahara are affected (we are on 1.4.1).

The issue is that we are serving SSL certificates from a load
balancer. This means the Mahara server thinks itself is http which
causes it to generate a shared key with http://mahara.mysite.com in
  the header.

This presents itself as a problem when trying to set up SSO with
Moodle, since Moodle looks at Mahara's shared key, notices it's
actually coming from a secure site (https) and says the key is
  incorrect.

Add configuration and init checks for SSL proxies (bug #829674)

Currently use of a proxy such as nginx to force https usage results
in a bit of loopiness. This patch adds the sslproxy setting and when
this is set, mandates that the wwwroot be a https address.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 844457] [NEW] suckypasswords check is very limited, could be expanded

2011-09-07 Thread Melissa Draper
Public bug reported:

When validating passwords, there is is a check against an array of really bad
passwords:
https://gitorious.org/mahara/mahara/blobs/f7d9a23f0744f719fc7f75bd5d740eef6ae4d055/htdocs/auth/lib.php#line1606

Currently the collection of bad passwords is really small. It could be
expanded. Some resources are:
http://www.dragonresearchgroup.org/insight/sshpwauth-cloud.html
http://img.sjbn.co/files/500-most-used-passwords-show-as-a-tag-cloud.gif
http://www.skullsecurity.org/wiki/index.php/Passwords

There should be more than one level of filtering bad passwords. Some,
such as the current suckypasswords collection, should be forced. There
should also be an optional blacklist based on the resources above.

Display a list of views on a users watchlist

Bug #794460

A basic block that shows a list of views currently on a users watchlist.
Allows click-through to the view itself, where the user can remove the
view from their watchlist.

This block could be extended with a Remove from Watchlist button on
the block itself, and/or an inbox style paginated list.

Is there a limit on the number of views displayed in the list?

It not, it would be good to make it look like the online users block
where you see a small number of them (10?) and then you have to click
through to a different page to see the full list.

Fix list of invited requested groups on user profile

The group jointype changes from bug #610690 (which allow invitations
to any group) resulted in incorrect lists of invited/requested groups
on the user profile. Groups the user is already a member of are
listed under 'invited to join', and controlled groups are listed under
'requested membership of'. This change fixes these lists, and merges
the two queries that find the groups for which the logged-in user is an
admin.

http://xkcd.com/936/ :D

In all seriousness, Mahara could help change/improve habits by
suggesting what Randall describes. I propose that we don't merely reduce
the minimum length and drop numbers requirements. I suggest that when we
change the policy, we also offer alternative password guidelines in text
alongside the password change fields.

commit b5713230f85e94398af158c07dcc6917214d6505
Author: Richard Mansfield richard.mansfi...@catalyst.net.nz

Prevent multiple simultaneous upgrades (bug #844480)

When an upgrade is running, prevent requests for admin/upgrade.php
from immediately starting up a second unwanted upgrade by inserting
a record in the config table. Nothing is done on fresh installs,
because the config table won't exist.

Title:
Don't trigger an upgrade when there's already one in progress

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  In Progress

Bug description:
When an upgrade is in progress, and someone hits the admin/upgrade.php
page, Mahara stupidly starts a second upgrade. The second upgrade
usually fails, but we need to stop this from happening, because it
  could potentially result in inconsistencies.

Rewrite upgrade of textbox blocks (bug #736665)

The upgrade was too slow on large databases, because it inserted
the new textbox artefacts one by one. The rewrite updates the table
in bigger chunks.

Bug description:
  result from the discussion at

Currently, the text box is only available in one view and it is not
re-usable. It would be good to use it in multiple views like other
artefacts and to be able to comment on it.
