The lib/db/upgrade.php script still contains some code that will not work with MySQL versions of 5.0 or later. Hm, kind of a unique situation, actually. In addition to blocking upgrades from 1.1 (in MySQL) this actually blocks installing Mahara 1.1. So, it really belongs as a patch on the Mahara 1.1 branch, which normally we would no longer patch.
