Re: [Mailman-Users] cleaning up dead addresses
This is _exactly_ why I asked for a re-confirm subscription request. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1504 204group_id=103atid=100103 Which was just submitted as a bug and duplicates your RFE of a couple of weeks ago at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1495 305group_id=103atid=350103. It doesn't really help to re-submit what is really a feature request as a bug. It just clutters up the tracker and makes the task of fixing things seem more daunting than it really is. If you're just trying to ping us to see if we're paying attention, it would be much better to add a comment to your original request. No, I actually did search for my previous entry, as I could swear I had entered one, but couldn't find it. Honest Injun I looked via several key words and even tried to find via my 'username'. So I thought perhaps I THOUGHT I entered one, but it never actually got submitted or something (like as in CGI error or timeout or who knows)... Sorry for the duplicate entry. It was not my intention. Yeah, except the problem is that most servers just silently accept on behalf of that person. Ever get a bounce back from hotmail, AOL, or any other big ISP? NO. If the bounce (that is, the remove server sends a message back saying that the original message was undeliverable), bounce processing takes over. [Mailman-Users] Feature Req: Re-confirm subscription
If there is a way to do this, please let me know, I didn't see anything in the FAQ. I also didn't see a 'bug/feature' tracking system link anywhere? Is there a bugzilla or anything for mailman? --- Anyways, I have a suspicion that some of my lists' mails are not getting to their destinations. This could be that some people used their job email and no longer work there, could be that they are on AOL or hotmail (which seem to just silently discard), or could be just people that joined up and now 'junk mail or filter' the list because they're either to stupid or lazy to properly unsubscribe. Bottom line is that I'm paying per emails sent (via my quota on DynDNS) and I want to unsubscribe these dead members. It would be great if I could push a button in the web GUI (or run some command on the CLI) and mailman would reset every members status to 'unconfirmed' (or whatever it is), mail them a link to click (with some crazy code in it like when you join a list), and then mark the responders as 'confirmed'. Then after some period of time, say a week or so, I could then go into the GUI, click some link and see a list of all 'unconfirmed' people with the option to unsubscribe them all (without sending an email obviously, since the address is bogus). Extra points if I can schedule this task to occur every month, every six months, once a year, etc... (probably some 'day' interval would be sufficient here). I just set up a new list, and must have fat fingered the password. How can I change it since I cannot log into the GUI? I see 'mmsitepass', but it changes a master password for all lists. I don't want that. I only want to change for ONE specific list. Also, this seems kind of short-sighted that it takes only one password on the command line and hides the typing. [Mailman-Users] Does mailman send one message at a time, or all at once?
I'm considering getting this MailHop Outbound service, however one of the restrictions they have is in this FAQ: http://www.dyndns.com/services/mailhop/faq.html#q114 Q: What is the maximum number of recipients in a message sent via MailHop Outbound? A: You may specify at most 100 recipients per message. If you need to send a message to more than 100 recipients, you will need to split it into blocks of 100 or less. This restriction is necessary to deter spammers. I run a 'mailman v2.1.5' list for club events happening around town. I have around 150 people on the list. Will this work? Re: [Mailman-Users] mailman stopped working after upgrade
Mark said, Yes, it has the flags, but what is the value of the ${MAILGID} parameter? The error message you received says it's 'mailman' and should be 'mail'. And looking at the log, he seems to be correct: Sep 12 12:16:19 [Mailman mail-wrapper] Group mismatch error. Mailman expected the mail_wrapper script to be executed as group mailman, but_the system's mail server executed the mail script as_group mail. Try tweaking the mail server to run the_script as group mailman, or re-run configure, _providing the command line option `--with-mail-gid=mail'._ But the .ebuild script sets it to gid 280, shouldn't it be 8? why is that? Is that the problem? How can I fix that. Re-emerging doesn't let me change those .ebuild values. MD5 errors and such. APACHEGID=81 MAILGID=280 src_compile() { econf \ --prefix=${INSTALLDIR} \ --with-mail-gid=${MAILGID} \ --with-cgi-gid=${APACHEGID} \ || die configure failed make || die make failed } # ll /etc/exim/exim.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 29452 Apr 29 13:54 /etc/exim/exim.conf # User and group for Mailman, should match your --with-mail-gid # switch to Mailman's configure script. # Value is normally mailman MM_UID=mailman MM_GID=mailman So, these match what the comment says there, and what the .ebuild is doing. I'm so confused. *sigh* As well you should be at this point. The wrapper is telling you that it expects to be executed as group 'mailman', and it looks from what you've presented that it was in fact built that way. It also seems you can't change it in your update package. The wrapper also complains that it is not being executed as group 'mailman', but rather as group 'mail'. This is the confusing part because it seems from the above that you are telling Exim to invoke the wrapper as group 'mailman' yet the wrapper is telling you it is being invoked as group 'mail'. I would look carefully at the Exim configuration to be sure that MM_UID=mailman MM_GID=mailman are in the right place and are not being overridden somewhere else. [Mailman-Users] REQ: show member names as well as email addresses
I'm using version 2.1.5 (Gentoo) and when a member views the member list, it only shows the email addresses. I am guessing from the rm archives/public/foo-list rm archives/public/foo-list.mbox above that you created the foo-list on 2.1 first. This is the problem. Creating foo-list creates $MM21/lists/foo-list/config.pck. Then the mv moves the old 2.0 lists/foo-list/config.db file. Then Mailman sees the new config.pck and never tries to import config.db. The solution is to remove the config.pck and config.pck.last leaving only the config.db and config.db.last. The logs have some entries that look like this: Apr 6 00:42:21 [exim] 2005-04-06 00:42:21 no host name found for IP address 10.10.10.69 Apr 6 00:42:21 [exim] 2005-04-06 00:42:21 1DJ5B7-0006dd-Cc = [EMAIL PROTECTED] H=(locutus) [10.10.10.69] P=esmtpsa X=TLSv1:RC4-MD5:128 A=login:dae51d S=569 Apr 6 00:42:21 [exim] 2005-04-06 00:42:21 1DJ5B7-0006dd-Cc User 0 set for address_pipe transport is on the never_users list - Last output repeated twice - Apr 6 00:42:21 [exim] 2005-04-06 00:42:21 1DJ5B7-0006dd-Cc == |/usr/local/mailman/mail/mailman post rbc [EMAIL PROTECTED] R=system_aliases T=address_pipe defer (-29): User 0 set for address_pipe transport is on the never_users list I've googled for address_pipe and never_users and it seems to be Exim related, but I really don't know what to change to fix this. I used to run mailman 2.0 with sendmail on an old RH8 box. Exim is all new to me too. Sorry if this is off topic. I tried to follow the instructions here, but still no joy. http://www.exim.org/howto/mailman21.html#exconf Something isn't right: daevid bin # exim -bt [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] - |/usr/local/mailman/mail/mailman post rbc transport = address_pipe When it should say: router = mailman_router, transport = mailman_transport -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org Security Policy: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=showamp;file=faq01.027.htp
[Mailman-Users] How do I get my 2.0 members into a new 2.1 Mailman install
I recently upgraded from a RedHat 8 box to Gentoo. In doing so I upgraded Mailman. I have the old Mailman directories mounted and access to the files, but I do NOT have a running 2.0 version. I have Mailman 2.1 I've followed two different upgrade posts to go from Mailman 2.0 to 2.1 but both ways have left my lists empty. Here's the most recent one which is essentially the same thing as the other method I tried. http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/print.php?id=18 cd $MM20 mv -i lists/foo-list $MM21/lists mv -i archives/private/foo-list $MM21/archives/private mv -i archives/private/foo-list.mbox $MM21/archives/private rm archives/public/foo-list rm archives/public/foo-list.mbox cd $MM21 daevid mailman # ./bin/withlist -l -r fix_url rbc Importing fix_url... Running fix_url.fix_url()... Loading list rbc (locked) Saving list Finalizing But when I type ./list_members rbc nothing shows up. :( How do I get my members into the NEW 2.1 lists??! -- Mailman-Users mailing list Mailman-Users@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org Security Policy: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=showamp;file=faq01.027.htp
[Mailman-Users] How do I set up virtual host/domain lists on sameserver?
I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, and I have scanned the archives a bit, but there is so many fragments and pieces. I'm amazed that the FAQ or the mailman website don't give specific detailed instructions how to accomplish this task. Why is that?!! Grr. Can someone please point me at a page or thread or something that tells me step by step how to set up various mail lists with different domains on the same server. I am currently running RedHat 8.0 with mailman-2.0.13-3 rpm installed. I have some lists that work just fine already, and I'd like to switch some of them over if possible. For example, I have a list [EMAIL PROTECTED], but I'd like to change it to be [EMAIL PROTECTED] (for example). How do I do this? My sendmail and apache work fine for foo.com as virtual hosts, so what is the mailman component? I am a programmer, but I do not know Python per se, FWTW. Thank you in advance, Daevid. -- Mailman-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/mailman-users Mailman FAQ: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py Searchable Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/mailman-users%40python.org/ This message was sent to: archive@jab.org Unsubscribe or change your options at http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/mailman-users/archive%40jab.org
