The url is : http://mail.vrcis.com/mailman/admindb/vip

The response is:

Not Found

The requested URL /mailman/admindb/vip was not found on this server.

Apache Server at mail.vrcis.com Port 80

The URL http://mail.vrcis.com

Works fine, however

Mailman logs are empty, /var/apache2 logs have the usual minimal stuff, no
primary website, no webmail, this is just an OSX server running postfix,
clamav and mailman.
We can still execute commandline mailman commands, I have a feeeling its in
the apache httpd conf possibly where the ./mailman/admindb/... is added
..?

Thank

What happens when you try to go to the Mailman web GUI?

What is your web server?

What is in it's logs?

[Mailman-Users] Lost GNU Web mgmg interface after MAC OSX update

2016-05-20 Thread Caulfield Kevin Ross
Hi gang :

Silly question, during a MAC OSX update we lost the ability to manage our
mailman GNU system using the http interface.

Has anyone else encountered this ? Can you steer me in the direction of a
solution? I suspect the upgrade replaced the conf file or dropped

Custom stanza's somewhere, OSX is a bit of hybrid BSD flavor, and is not my
specialty. I will be submitting to an OSX board also.

Thanks in advance

[Mailman-Users] MAX_AUTORESPONSES_PER_DAY per list override

2008-10-16 Thread David Duncan Ross Palmer

Hi lads,

First post here. I've had a look through the archives, however, I'm not
immediately sure whether MAX_AUTORESPONSES_PER_DAY
can be overridden on a per list basis. We operate a very large single
server installation with hundreds of lists on, and one customer has
requested we up this limit for their test list, however it seems to be a
global setting override. Has anybody else done this?

   If you've got a large list, the first thing you need to do is to
 search the FAQ and the archives for the words performance and
 large.

Yea, I've implemented most of the changes for Mailman and MTA tuning
that I came across. Kept outgoing SMTP in small chunks, increased the
qrunner lifetimes, and tuned up postfix (which was most of the way
there).

I've also implemented some other postfix configuration to keep queues
from backing up. As I discovered yesterday, there is an issue with
the server being underpowered, but I'll need to discuss that with our
client.

   One thing you could do is break the list up into multiple
 sub-lists, and then set up larger umbrella lists (whose only
 subscribers are the sub-lists).

I suspected this might be case. I'm hoping to have this change
implemented later today

 Trying to shoe-horn everything into a
 postfix problem is not going to solve your fundamental Mailman
 problems.

Point definitely taken!

 In your case, I would encourage you to look at the new 2.1.7-beta

Sounds very promising. Thanks for the tip!

I knew things were going to sound like this when I came to the list,

houses lists for a fairly high-profile television celebrity. You might
be suprised at the amount of garbage this attracts. I certainly was.
Especially when the developers get notes from the celebrity about how

I'm working on the web developer to implement some better checks. It'd
be awesome if when we got a subscription request from a client, some code
made sure they didn't type [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'm somewhat hopeful of
Mark's idea to disable notifications as well, but I don't know how
this will fly with the client.

Unfortunately, I just work for the hosting company and don't really
have a lot of pull with celebrity TV personalities or their web

[Mailman-Users] Large mailing lists

2005-12-21 Thread Ross Vandegrift
Hello everyone,

I've got some questions on a mailman server that's currently
performing non-optimally.

The server has four lists of about 200,000 recipients each. They are
announce-only subscription lists that receive an occasional post.
Despite being low traffic, we have some consistency issues.

1) Organization: the current setup is designed so that a post to the
list does not generate overwhelming amounts of traffic at once. The
list owner posts to each list spaced out by a few hours.

Does a setup like this give any real benefit, or just cause headaches?
Should we consider cutting up the lists further?

2) Recipient expansion: Currently, Mailman is running it's default
recipient expansion to postfix, which sends via SMTP. Since the
postfix server only accepts mail locally, I have considered making
these changes:
a) Remove any recipient restrictions from postfix smtpd
b) Set Mailman to send a single message with all recipients
c) Set Postfix to limit outgoing messages to 20 recipients

The goal of this is two fold:
a) We have far more postfix expertise in-house than Mailman.
When there is an issue with Mailman, it's hard to solve. We've got
more people capable of solving issues at the MTA level.
b) Postfix keeps logs for each outgoing message, giving us an
easy way to keep track of a message that is being sent.

Does anyone see any pros/cons with this?

3) Comparison: Is anyone else running lists this large? I've found
some list server usage surveys online, but most of them have 30,000
and above as their largest class of addresses.

Thanks for the help!

Another question. Most of the time VirginRunner is at max CPU,
sending address removal notifications. I have already set the lists
to zero bounce notifications. Is there a separate config item for
you have been removed messages?

One propety of these lists is that there is a high incidence of bad
addresses - the developer of the web front end refuses to do any kind
of validation before they are added to the mailman backend.

So most of the removals are destined for non-existent addresses and
should not be notified.

In general, I know that sourceforge.net uses Mailman for their lists.

[Mailman-Users] All recipients refused: please run connect() first

2005-07-25 Thread ross
Hello everyone,

I have a mailing list that appears to have eaten a post today, and I'm
a bit concerned because the mailman logs don't include any information
as to why.

First, the exim logs show that the message was sucessfully received
and routed to mailman:

2005-07-25 12:23:57 1Dx5kD-0005Ag-0p = [EMAIL PROTECTED]
H=rwcrmhc12.comcast.net [216.148.227.85] P=esmtp S=7082 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
2005-07-25 12:23:57 1Dx5kD-0005Ag-0p = linmarka [EMAIL PROTECTED]
R=mailman_router T=mailman_transport
2005-07-25 12:23:57 1Dx5kD-0005Ag-0p Completed

However, our mailman logs show nothing about the message. There has
been no logged traffic to to the linmarka list. However, around the
same time there are these ominous messages in the smtp log:

smtp:Jul 25 12:23:59 2005 (23825) All recipients refused: please run connect()
first
smtp:Jul 25 12:23:59 2005 (23825) All recipients refused: please run connect()

first
smtp:Jul 25 12:24:00 2005 (23825) All recipients refused: please run connect()
first

The message isn't sitting in any of the mail queues that I can find,
and there are no logs for the list today - I read over all the logs
for Jul 25 to make sure I didn't miss anything.

What can cause that error and what can I do to prevent this in the
future?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well, you're seeing basically reasonable behavior. A site which imposes
quotas can either reject temporarily when a user is over quote, or reject
permanently the first time the message is offered.
The former assumes that users are reasonable, and will clear out their quota
problem fairly soon. The latter assumes that users are ignoring their mail.
If you want to change the behavior, the Postfix configuration (about which I
know nothing) would be the place to look. Interestingly, the O'Reilly book
Postfix, The Definitive Guide (my copy was printed in Dec 2003...first
edition) does not mention quota in its index.

Well the confusion I seem to be having here is cyrus-mailman related
since it is the program handling local quota's. Cyrus bounces mail when
single mail is recieved from local or outside mail accounts. This odd
behaviour only occurs with mailman which is why I'm a bit puzzled. I'd
like to get the message bouncing back to mailman right away like it does
with users that are not locally hosted.

What LDA do you have configured for use with Cyrus?

I'm confused here with what you are referring to when you say local
delivery agent. Postfix is the MTP that delivers to cryus-imap via its
own lmtp local agent. I have attached the postfix .cf files below.

This
 odd behaviour only occurs with mailman which is why I'm a bit puzzled.

 I'd like to get the message bouncing back to mailman right away like
 it does with users that are not locally hosted.

I think that this is a difference in the way that the LDA is
called, or perhaps using different Cyrus-compatible LDAs. At the
very least, you need a lot more information about how your MTA is
configured to talk to your LDA, and how your LDA is configured to
handle certain situations.

[Mailman-Users] Posts being dropped for no clear reason

2005-03-15 Thread Ross Vandegrift
Hello everyone,

On our list server, one can find messages from the administrator in the
exim log:

whitman:/var/log/exim4# grep 1DB3Xc-0005bz-1W mainlog
2005-03-14 23:20:25 1DB3Xc-0005bz-1W = [EMAIL PROTECTED]
H=adsl-67-122-237-50.dsl.scrm01.pacbell.net (capcsac.org)

2005-03-14 23:20:26 1DB3Xc-0005bz-1W = pca-ca
[EMAIL PROTECTED] R=mailman_router T=mailman_transport
2005-03-14 23:20:26 1DB3Xc-0005bz-1W Completed

And then mailman dumps it:
whitman:/var/log/mailman# grep 326EA2B87756DF4C86D87B8820D3E5DF3948BB *
vette:Mar 14 23:20:27 2005 (9981) Message discarded, msgid:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

vette is the only log that has any refence to these message IDs.
Content filtering is disabled for this list. Why is this message being
discarded? (In actuality, it's any post from this email address)

Also, what exactly is the vette logfile storing? I don't understand
what this logfile represents - everything else has a pretty clear name.
Thanks for any help!

[Mailman-Users] Temporary local failure

2005-01-16 Thread Ross Anderson
I've got a configuration question that I've been unable to resolve and I
was hoping someone here could assist.

Here's the config

Postfix w/mysql for virtual delivery to Cyrus-imap.

Mailman for multiple virtual domain lists.

Postfix is in a dual injection mode where it hands messages off to
amavis-new.

Sometimes the local users are deleted and yet they are not removed from
the mail man list right away. What occurs is a temporary delivery error
and the messages destin for the now removed users hang in the que. For
some reason they are just laying there in the postfix que and never seem
to get processed properly by mailman as a bouncing user. Postfix options

unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550

unknown_virtual_alias_reject_code = 550

are engaged.

Anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

[Mailman-Users] Using postfix-to-mailman-2.1

2004-01-03 Thread Ross McKillop
Hi All,

I'm having a small problem getting mailman to work with my postfix
setup, the easiest method I've found is postfix-to-mailman-2.1.py (from
http://www.gurulabs.com/files/postfix-to-mailman-2.1.py) but not having
much success with it... hoping someone on this list can shed a little
light on it...

Postfix is running with MailScanner so I have /etc/postfix and
/etc/postfix.in (the incoming MTA)

Configuration is as follows;

/etc/postfix.in/main.cf
	transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix.in/transport
	relay_domains = $mydestination lists.kleechie.net
	unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 450

	 SQL BITS ##
	virtual_alias_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_alias_maps.cf
	virtual_gid_maps = static:89
	virtual_mailbox_base = /var/virtualmail
	virtual_mailbox_domains =
mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_domains_maps.cf
	virtual_mailbox_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_mailbox_maps.cf
	virtual_mailbox_limit = 5120
	virtual_minimum_uid = 89
	virtual_transport = virtual
	virtual_uid_maps = static:89
	#

/etc/postfix.in/master.cf
mailman   unix  -   n   n   -   -   pipe
  flags=FR user=mailman:mailman
  argv=/usr/local/mailman/postfix-to-mailman.py ${nexthop} ${user}
/etc/postfix.in/transports
lists.kleechie.net  mailman:
The postfix stuff that specifies the transport seems to be working
correctly as every mail to @lists.kleechie.net bounces with;

	[EMAIL PROTECTED]: Command died with status 1:
/usr/local/mailman/postfix-to-mailman.py

The message is /var/log/maillog is;

	Jan  3 20:53:03 kleechie postfix/pipe[27313]: 4D5573AD2D:
to=[EMAIL PROTECTED],
	relay=mailman, delay=1, status=bounced (Command died with status 1:
/usr/local/mailman/postfix-to-mailman.py)

Permissions on /usr/local/mailman/postfix-to-mailman.py seems ok;
	-rwxr-xr-x1 mailman  mailman  2535 Jan  3 20:54
postfix-to-mailman-2.1.py

Also tried running it as mailman (albeit with missing environment
variables);
	[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailman]# su mailman -s postfix-to-mailman-2.1.py VAR1
VAR2
	TO ACCESS THE MAILING LIST SYSTEM: Start your web browser on
	http://VAR1/
	That web page will help you subscribe or unsubscribe, and will
	give you directions on how to post to each mailing list.

So it seems that mailman has permission to execute that file and
there's no obvious error with it.

Anyone got any ideas what's causing the command to die with status 1?

Thanks in Advance, and sorry for such a long question to be my first to
this list... I'm an experienced postfix user (ish) but this is the
first time I've tried to get it running under Postfix.

Ross

[Mailman-Users] spot of trouble migrating lists.

2001-11-26 Thread F. Ross Lord

Hello all. I have a problem and I'm not quite where to start. I have looked through
the documentation as best I can, and I haven't found any good guides. I have about 40
mailing lists with archives on a mail server that is due to be turned off in about 2
weeks. I need to migrate all of those lists to another server. I have installed
Mailman on the second server, and I can create/admin new lists that have been created
on that server. I took one of my existing lists, copied everything in
$prefix/archives/public/listname and $prefix/archives/private/listname, everything in
$prefix/lists/listname to the new server. I ran $prefix/bin/new_list on it. Here is
what works:

the admin pages work
the archive pages work
the listinfo for the list works
mail to the list works

There is one thing that isn't working. The listinfo page (which has all lists served
on that machine) does not have an entry for the list that was migrated. Does anyone
know how I can resolve that? Also, if there anyone who has a good set of instructions
for migrating lists that might help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
