[Mailman-Users] Mailman Slow Delivery

2010-11-10 Thread Ajay Kajla
Hello All,

I have been using mailman+sendmail on a CentOS Linux VPS box, with 2 x
Intel(R) Xeon(TM) MP CPU 3.66GHz CPUs, and 2 GB RAM. The list is of around
65000 users.

Form the past few weeks server seems to be very slow in delivering mails. I
have been receiving mailer approximately with 2 hours delay.

***Mailman is taking 30979.910 seconds for 65660 users***
Oct 31 10:02:28 2010 (7270) 201010310625.o9v6py9t028...@xyz.com smtp to
xyz for 65660 recips, completed in 30979.910 seconds

***Whereas another server with came Specs and configuration is just
taking 12517.834 for larger (79579) number of users.***

Oct 31 19:10:25 2010 (12027) 201010311653.o9vgrcqx024...@abc.com smtp to
abc for 79579 recips, completed in 12517.834 seconds

Can you please suggest me how to improvise the performance of mailman or how
about if I want to migrate the mailman from Sendmail to Exim ?

Regards,
Ajay

And presumably the last users have been seeing over 8 hours delay.

Also, possibly Mailman's out/ queue is backlogged.

That's still too long to be viable.

Can you please suggest me how to improvise the performance of mailman

Go to the FAQ at http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 and search for
performance.

or how

[Mailman-Users] mailman slow

2005-09-29 Thread Con Wieland
Hello,

Running version 2.1.4 it seems that mail is taking longer and longer.
What used to take a few minutes is now taking an hour or two to get
thru Mailman. Top indicates the machine is not busy and the mail is
not in the queue. It seems to be waiting in the mailman process.

Any ideas? I'm stumped at this point.
As always any ideas are appreciated.

Similar problems have been reported in the past that were apparently
caused by directories (usually in qfiles) at some point growing very
large. This creates a situation where even though the directory
currently has few if any entries, a very large (very sparse) disk
directory must be searched to store new entries.

Try 'ls -l qfiles' and see if any of the directories (most likely
'out', but maybe others) are quite large. If this is the case, you can
stop mailman, move the large directory aside, create a new directory
with the same ownership and permissions and move the contents back and
start mailman.

If you want to do this with qfiles/in, you should probably stop the
incoming MTA while doing it.

You also might look at the size of the locks/ directory.

[Mailman-Users] Mailman Slow or Stalled

2003-10-25 Thread Mailman Mailing List Manager
Hi folks,

I'm running debian, postfix and mailman. Mailman has the
standard settings it hand when I used apt-get to install it. It
manages a half dozen lists with a few dozen people on it, which get a
few messages a month.

For a while everything worked just fine. Somewhere along the
line, messages started taking a few hours to be processed. Now they
seem to get hung up permanently.

After reading through the archives here, I poked around a bit in
/var/lib/mailman/logs.

I checked /var/log/mail.log, and in there I see my message being
dispatched off to /var/lib/mailman/mail/wrapper

Oct 24 20:47:37 bar postfix/nqmgr[25231]: BF3493CD2C: from=[EMAIL PROTECTED],
size=938, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Oct 24 20:47:40 bar postfix/local[8807]: BF3493CD2C: to=[EMAIL PROTECTED],
relay=local, delay=3, status=sent (|/var/lib/mailman/mail/wrapper post foobar)

However, in /var/lib/mailman/logs, the only files that have been
touched anytime recently are smtp and subscribe:

Oct 11 06:41:03 2003 (5364) smtp for 8 recips, completed in 0.250 seconds
Oct 18 11:08:07 2003 (7251) smtp for 1 recips, completed in 0.068 seconds
Oct 24 20:54:27 2003 (8987) smtp for 1 recips, completed in 0.156 seconds

I think the 1 recip was mailman notifying the address that I
just subscribed to the list. This leads me to suspect that mailman is
*sending* mail just fine, and *receiving* mail, but that the break is
somewhere in between.
