[MlMt] How do I enlarge HTML text in messages I'm reading?

2017-04-28 Thread Roger Bohn

Hi,

In most text-heavy Mac programs, such as web browsers, hitting Cmd+
enlarges the font of whatever I am reading, and hitting Cmd- decreases
it.

This works in Mailmate for portions of incoming messages, but often not
for the “main” sections. My guess is that I can enlarge plain text
portions of messages, but if they arrive as HTML, I cannot override the
built-in fonts.

The manual says
“Messages are displayed using a standard WebView. HTML is generated
for plain text messages and it is styled using CSS. Note that you can
change the font and/or the font size using the “Format ▸ Fonts”
menu item “
But again, I can’t make this work in practice, except for plain-text
messages.

My eyes get tired, I use multiple monitors with different DPI, and I sit
at different distances from the screen. So this inability to enlarge
what I see is a Pain In The Eyes.

Is there any way to override the font size in HTML formatted incoming
messages??

thanks

Sorry, it might only be on the 53xx branch (I'm not quite sure). I'll
see if I can get updates out (for both branches) -- at least
tomorrow.

That brings an additional problem for me: due to the fact that I
delete periodically the Sent Messages (after archiving them - with
all the others email-messages - in a Finder-folder, that's outside
MailMate) I cannot recall previous recipients at all!

An editable list of previous recipients - independent of Sent
Messages - would be therefore very useful.

That's a bit like introducing an address book within MailMate itself.

Actually not, it's only a small subset of the adress book: only the
contacts I've emailed onced in the past.

I'm a banner guy, so this would be good for me. :-)

I use the correspondence view all the time. But if you have several
recipients etc. it sometimes makes sense to just get to one specific
email address with the "click on email" feature.

So, the only thing I would like to make is that this feature is not
limited to FROM or TO by default.

As you might have noticed then some message list columns have “Find
...” variations in the context sensitive menu. The same is possible in
the headers view, but I just haven't added a lot of that (or anything at
all). I guess part of this menu could be a submenu to allow the user to
select a default search. I think that would solve your issue. (No
promises though.)

My guess is that this is related to MailMate having to put both the
headers of the message and the original HTML within the same HTML page.
If MailMate had an explicit option to only print the content of the
email then I don't think this would happen. I'll note to keep this in
mind if/when adding printing options.

I'd prefer it simply activate and open that message. I'm not normally
in Inbox (I use smart mailboxes a lot), and what I want to do is read
the message, not see it in a list.

I've added that MailMate opens the message in a single message window
when the main window does not have an open message view, but it'll still
switch to, e.g., the Inbox. Hopefully this is a bit better although not
quite what you asked for.

Bonus: allow for a "Delete" option right from the notification.

Somewhat related, I expect the hidden preference
`MmNotificationInlineReply` to let users do inline replies in
notifications in the next release.

Also note, that the existing hidden preference
`MmNotificationDeleteButtonEnabled` replaces the default Reply button
with a Delete button. You might prefer that.

Finally, it's possible to let the action button be a menu of multiple
actions. I might make a preference for that at some point (which would
allow both delete and reply to be available, but it wouldn't be quite as
convenient as a single-click button and it cannot work together with
inline replies).

window then there is a menu available by clicking on the down-arrow
at the far right of the address. This should show an “Add/Remove
xxx from/to Blacklist” menu item (depending on whether the email
address is already blacklisted). The same menu item is available in
the headers view of messages displayed in the main window.

I was unaware of this, so I downloaded and installed the latest Beta
(Version 1.9.6 (5370) but do not find a down arrow at the right end of
the address. Is there another 'test' version I should be downloading
and if so, where to find it?

There's no down arrow in the headers view when emails are displayed. In
this case you have to use right-click to see the context sensitive menu.
The arrow should be seen in the Composer header fields for each entered
email address.

This is kind of expected behavior, especially when the preview in the
composer is enabled. It is, of course, possible to optimize this, but I
think my time would then be better spent on making it easier to use
cloud-based storage for large attachments. (The whole email-eco-system

left as the home directory.

For the record, enabling indexing should be sufficient for this to work.
(And I just tried and it appears to work for me with BusyContacts.)

Spotlight finds emails just fine via multiple searches - name, email
address, etc.

MailMate is the default mailer.

.eml files open with MailMate.

I even logged out of iCloud and back in, just for kicks.

iCloud should not play a part in this.

Is this working for anyone else? Any other things for me to try?
Thanks much in advance!

Maybe the problem with the many options in the email client popup is
somehow related (although I don't know how). You might want to try
resetting [launch

You mean showing them in the popup menu for an already existing
