The MailMate message store is in ~/Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Messages/ and the index of those messages which allows
MM to do fast searches is in ~/Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Database.noindex/ so if you restore those, you should
get everything you need. The risk of that is if you had MM open at
backup time and open files were not flushed to disk, you could have
inconsistencies between the messages and the index files or amongst the
index files themselves. If you do a restore from TM (or any other
backup) you should probably do a database rebuild as well, as described
in the MailMate Help documentation.

It can tell if the IMG tag includes width & height attributes, which it
almost always will in HTML mail, as it is critical for doing partial
rendering if the image isn't available.

That's what I do. I have Little Snitch set to warn about everything.
MailMate is always allowed to talk to my mailservers over SMTP and IMAP
and to the update servers over HTTPS. Everything else it yells about.

Interesting thought. I suspect that you could set a rule allowing
mailmate to connect only to your SMTP and IMAP servers, plus
the update server, plus (perhaps) anything else needed for license
key verification. Then allow, on case-by-case basis, loading images
that you want to see.

Would a resource like [DuckDuckGo's tracker
database](https://spreadprivacy.com/duckduckgo-tracker-radar/) help with
this? Sure, nothing is going to be perfect -- there can always be a
"zero day tracker," but we shouldn't make the best be the enemy of the
good.

[MlMt] Frequent crashes

2021-03-18 Thread Tobias Kirchhofer via mailmate

Hi,

i am on Beta Releases and i download interim versions from here
http://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/

I know that i cannot expect stable software with this strategy and i
don’t.

Since some days Mailmate crashes at startup when opening an email. If i
do nothing for a while after start Mailmate is relativly stable.

Since this behaviour is not what i can deal with all the time i tried to
go back to stable.

But this does not change the behavior. Maybe some settijngs which are
not compatible anymore? Any ideas what to do? Would like to avoid a
globales reset of Mailmate.

Greetings,

Tobias

Under Preferences -> Security, you can enable Image Blocking for All
Messages. If you also select the extra options to strictly block known
trackers, the single pixels won't be downloaded.
