[MlMt] email archiver searching

2021-08-05 Thread Tracy Valleau
(Sorry, I didn't keep the original thread, but...)

Someone was asking about email archivers and the "best" searching.

I recommended MailSteward previously, so this time I'll point out that it uses
the industry standard mySQL or SQLite, and so can be searched not only from
within the MS program itself, but by any standard software that works with
either of those sql variations.

I am certain you are right… the server is doing the filtering, e.g.,
X-RazorGate-Vade-Verdict: spam 300
X-RazorGate-Vade-Classification: phishing
Applied against a “balance update” message from a major credit card company.

This is why I am asking about what more I need to do in MailMate to undo this
and let SpamSieve decide… fixing the spam filtering at the server is not an
option.

As you have implied the training has been extensive, and when SpamSeive is
applied the message scores are 1, so SpamSieve is never getting asked.

As above, no wrong entries. The problem is more along the lines of the server
doing the filtering as was mentioned by Verdon just now, and others on recent
threads.

Re: [MlMt] Mail archive tools - best searching

2021-08-05 Thread Zvi Biener
Stability of MM aside, I'd recommend FoxTrot Professional from CTM
software. It has a very sophisticated search syntax, and will handle
virtually any type of file. I don't think it has a syntax specific to
email, but you might be able to overcome that with good enough queries
(like find "bob" 1 word away from "from" and "beer" one word away from
"subject"). There is a month trial so you can try it.

When this began, I allowed the system to send the crash reports but
after a month or two, I stopped because it seemed to have the same

next crash.

As to version: macOS High Sierra 10.13.6; MailMate is 1.13.1 (5682)
but this began on a previous version at least 6-8 months ago…

Hello MailMate community,

My inquiry today has to do with the search facilities of the
various mail archiving tools out there. Based on my reading of the
mailer archives, the following tools seem to get a lot of mention:

* Devon
* EagleFiler
* Mail Steward
* Horcrux
* Mail Archiver X

**As baseline**, I truly love MailMate’s search facility. I find
it to be incredibly functional and an essential tool that enables
me to easily find emails especially when I have very little search
criteria. So MailMate’s search functionality is a minimum
requirement for me.

**Next - my current setup**: I have a locally installed Dovecot
server that is dedicated to archives. This works great and because
it is accessible via MailMate, access & searching of archives is
essentially the same as for “live” email. And while I do love
the consistency, it is not a “must-have” like the search
functionality is.

**The issue???** Simply put, MailMate is unstable - well, it is for
me at least. Despite running various MailMate versions across
different Macs & OS versions, MailMate still crashes at least 3-5
times per week.

So, in an attempt to find a more stable scenario, I’ve decided to
check with you all and solicit feedback regarding how well each of
the above apps implements search facilities. I’ve actually tried
both Devon & EagleFiler and while Devon’s search seems to rival
that of MailMate, I find EagleFiler’s search to be somewhat
lacking. Perhaps this is a user error issue and if so, then please
feel free to educate me.

So with that, I respectfully request any feedback you would like to
share re: your mail archiver of choice and how well it provides
search facilities.

Thanks in advance…

Have you told the spam filters that those are good messages? You need to
train spamsieve ;-)
If that does not help, check the blacklist in the spamsieve and remove
any wrong entries.

2021-08-05 Thread Verdon Vaillancourt
It sounds like that account is filtering for spam/junk one the server, so it
never arrives to MailMate for SpamSieve filtering. If I am right, you would
have to disable filtering on the server and let your local SpamSieve deal with
it. The server is likely adding headers for whatever filtering it is doing, so
if all you’re looking for is headers to sort by, or whatever, something may
already be there.
