[MlMt] how to represent OR condition in Conditions

2023-12-15 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
I found many many mailing lists that were just numbers and so want to
hide those. I edited the example Mailing Lists as below, but assume
there must be a more proper way to accomplish this? Assume the same
would apply to an advanced (nested) search.

And ideally would only exclude mailing lists starting with 0-9, not
those that happen to have a number later on.

Thank you for any tips!
Christian

I tried it again from scratch and this time it worked. I think there may
have been a problem with how I changed the symlink the first time.

I also see that now Options-General-Messages Folder-Custom location has
updated to reflect the symlink. This is unexpected. Normally a user would
expect to be able to change the symlink by changing that setting.

My message store had file mix-ups in this whole process so I'm starting
with a new one. I know I can use the “Message ▸ Reset...” menu item after
selecting all emails in each folder. Is there a way to do this for a whole
Account without deleting and re-adding it?

Re: [MlMt] moving Mailmate mail to a newtork share

2023-11-07 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
I tried moving the target directory (com.freron.MailMate) to the NAS and
changing the link, but now MailMate crashes when run. I tried moving the
target directory to a USB drive and changed the link to point to that.
MailMate crashes when run.

I got MailMate to run again by deleting the symbolic link, but all but
newly received messages have their content missing. I could refetch
messages using the “Message ▸ Reset...” menu item, but want to move the
directory where they are stored first.

I've tried multiple times changing the folder in Options-General-Messages
Folder-Custom location. However, that always reverts after restarting
MailMate.

[MlMt] moving Mailmate mail to a newtork share

2023-11-06 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
On a MacMini, the SSD is full, mostly due to mailmate mailboxes.

I tried moving them by changing the folder in Options-General-Messages
Folder-Custom location. However, no files were moved.

I see the mail is actually kept in: ~/com.freron.MailMate/Messages
With a symlink from: ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Messages

Can I just move the first folder to the NAS and then change the symlink with:
ln -hfs afp://[NAS]/data/MailMate/Messages ~/Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Messages

?

I thought this would be a common issue and searched first, but didn’t find
anything.

[MlMt] copy markdown from a message?

2023-10-30 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
Is there a way to copy markdown from a message in MailMate? I need to do
this from both messages I received and messages I previously sent.

When I copy-paste into another markdown-compatible program (e.g., Notion
web app) it comes across as plain text.

My current hack is to press Cmd-Shift-D to resend the message and copy
markdown from there. But it would be easier to copy directly from the
rendered email. And this hack doesn’t work for copying formatted text
from messages that were replied to (anything below the top message in
and email with replies or forwards).

e.g. here is some text I’d like to copy as markdown from a formatted
message:

That solved it! For some reason an update must have altered the Outline setting
in all my folders and also “defaults delete com.freron.MailMate

[MlMt] All mailboxes formatted as "Sent Items" (unable to disable "To" column)

2022-12-22 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
All my mailboxes, including Inboxes are now permanently treated as "Sent
Items”. They all show a “To” column, which I’m unable to disable. “Revert to
default columns” is greyed out.

I already tried quitting and running in Terminal:
defaults delete com.freron.MailMate MmMailboxRelatedStates

I tried deleting the Test release and rolling back to the Beta (r5918).

I had been seeing more and more problems with default columns not being honored
(e.g., always reset in Smart Folders, always reset in search views). But now
this latest issue has made MailMate totally unusable.

Since rolling back to the Beta, I’m also experiencing MailMate hanging for
~10seconds every time I compose a new message or reply to one.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thank you!

Not sure if anyone else is encountering this, but the content of the sidebar
(the lists of mailboxes and sources) will have disappeared when I switch back
to MM from another app. I never see it disappear in front of my eyes, but after
checking mail and then switching to another app to do something and returning
to MM, the content is gone. I can switch layouts and the content comes back,
but after this has happened, I might also see a crash when I quit MM, so
something has been left in a bad stateafter it has happened. It has happened in
build 5896 and at least one test build prior to this.

[MlMt] Crashes every time selecting "Send Now" when quitting

2022-05-20 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
Has happened consistently since the previous update. Still occurring
after the latest 1.14 update (5897).

Steps to reproduce:
1) Send a message with a delay
2) Quit app
3) Dialog shows "Quit / Send Now / Cancel" - select "Send Now"

Outcome:
MlMt crashes and generates crash log
On re-loading, message that was in Outbox is now in Drafts and never
gets sent

[MlMt] is there a way to clear first search criterion?

2021-08-23 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
For emails that are part of a thread, I often search first by sender
name but then need to see all emails in the same thread (from all
senders).

I’m using:

1) Search for all emails from sender: “f [sender]”
2) Select desired email
3) In preview pane, click subject (this adds the subject as an
additional search criterion)

Now I see no way to remove the original f [sender] from the search. Is
there a way? Right now I’m forced to go through the following
work-around:

4) Right-click email in search results pane and select “Go to
source” (in addition to being an extra step, this opens an undesired
new window)
5) In preview pane, click subject (this adds the subject as an
additional search criterion)

Can you help me find a better way? Thank you!

Bill, thank you, very helpful to learn that these field names are not “defined”
by MailMate but rather whatever is used in the header.

I tried both the filenames you kindly suggested and MailMate just saved them in
the selected “Default Downloads Folder”.

So I tested with the default ${#source.#name}/${#source.path} and attachments
still save in the “Default Downloads Folder”, not a Sub folder.

Can anyone else reproduce? Is this a bug?

not possible, the entire email address.)

I searched everywhere and can’t find a list of the other field names for
MailMate. Can you help?

Thank you!

[MlMt] Error with items in Office365 account Deleted Items folder

2021-05-16 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
Every time I start MM I get the below error from my Office365 account. I
disabled all the non-mail folders, but am getting this error for two items in
my Deleted Items folder.

There are of course calendar, contact, and task items in Deleted Items, but
apparently only two of them are causing this error, and it only started a
couple of days ago.

I do want MM to index the mail in Deleted Items.

I tried to deleted the problem items, but can’t figure out how to identify
them: messages with those UIDs are not in the folder in MM. I can access the
folder in Outlook for Windows but don’t know how to see UIDs?

"MailMate encountered the following error: “Failed to fetch data for 1
messages.”.
Mailbox: “Deleted Items”.
This indicates a server bug. You can tell MailMate to always ignore messages
involved in this type of error (for this account) or you can temporarily ignore
the messages with the following UIDs: “55147,55148”."

Thank you for any help!
Christian

Thibaud
error with Exchange

Reported by Thibaud | March 3rd, 2015 @ 07:41 AM

Hello,

I connect to an Exchange server (by IMAP) and I get the following error:

Unexpected reply from IMAP server

MailMate encountered the following error: “Failed to fetch data for 3
messages.”.
Mailbox: “Calendrier”.
This indicates a server bug. You can tell MailMate to always ignore messages
involved in this type of error (for this account) or you can temporarily ignore
the messages with the following UIDs: “4,12,13”.

with a message popping-up regularly.

For information, I have a calendar on this Exchange server which is named
"Calendrier" and there are three items inside, so I guess the confusion comes
from this.

Happy to help if more information is needed.

Thanx :)

State changed from “new” to “resolved”

I believe this is not really an IMAP mailbox and I'm not sure why it is
exposed via IMAP. I also don't think MailMate can automatically ignore it since
it looks not different than other mailboxes (other than failing to fetch
messages).

I suggest you go to “File ▸ Edit IMAP Account ▸ ...” and click “Edit
Subscriptions” and then unsubscribe the mailbox. That should clear up the
problem.

Alternatively, you can right-click the “Calendrier” mailbox and explicitly
select “Take Offline”.

Let me know if this does not help.

Tag changed from “exchange calendar imap” to “calendar, exchange, imap”

Thank you, it solved the problem!

[MlMt] Custom sort mixing Date Received and From?

2021-05-13 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
In the mailbox where I receive all my newsletter subscriptions and commercial
email, I want to sort in the following order:
1) Message with most recent “Date Received”
2) All other messages with the same “From” as Message 1) in order of “Date
Received”
3) Message with the second most recent “Date Received”
4) All other messages with the same “From” as Message 3)
… and so on

This would enable me to review and archive the newest messages first, but at
the same time easily archive **all** messages from a particular company or
newsletter, which is often appropriate.

In steps 2) and 4), alternatively the same “To” because some companies send
commercial email from different addresses but I use aliases so issue a custom
To address for each company.

I searched the list archives for custom sort and couldn’t find anything
relevant to this functionality. MM is so awesomely capable and customizable,
I’m hoping there is a way?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Christian

Great tip. I’d seen that that’s built-in to MM. It also allows quick
visual review.

Thank you! @Thomas Grundberg: Thanks to you too: “Return” works!
However, a double-click does not open the message for me. It does (very
helpfully) search on sender or subject if I double click either of
those.

I’m so excited to set these up. Most urgently I need to “Go To”
each of the individual Sources’ Inbox, Archive, and Sent Items. I have
totally different contexts for my mail and don’t use the combined
views at all.

Re: [MlMt] Local email archiving status/options?

2021-01-24 Thread Christian Bailey via mailmate
I found this message and the related
[ticket](https://freron.lighthouseapp.com/projects/58672/tickets/81-archiving-to-local-folders)

searching on options to import my 65 GB of offline archived email into
MailMate.

I’m loving the power and customizability of MailMate by the way.
Switched from a PC would have switched a decade ago had I known. The
lack of features in MacOS Mail.app compared to Outlook on Windows made
me give up on switching twice before.

I checked and my IMAP servers actually support 50 GB each and so it is
feasible for me to ditch local email completely and upload everything to
the servers the MM way.

A few questions:

1) Which is better for importing via MM - eml or mbox? Like Bill, I also
just purchased Emailchemy to covert the pst files. It offers both mbox
and eml as options. I presume mbox is better if I want to import
everything?

2) I might end up with duplicates. Or does MM automatically no import
duplicates? Any recommendations on de-duplication?

3) When I connected my Office 365 account, there were hundred of error
messages as MM tried to download the Contacts, Calendar, Notes, and
Tasks folders. I presume these should be unsubscribed?

4) Just want to confirm: does MM get its address book from MacOS? I see
that it has Contacts access in System Preferences-Privacy, so that’s
expected. Just curious because some other mail apps (e.g., Thunderbird)
actually access the Office 365 contacts directly. I wanted to confirm
that MM never reads contacts from a mail server?

5) Is there a way to open a message in a separate window? Within MM, the
only option appears to be to create a duplicate window of the whole
application, folders and all. Some messages are poorly formatted and
need to be opened in a wider window to be read. I also tried “Open in
Apple Mail” but get the following error: “The operation couldn’t
be completed. (MCMailErrorDomain error 1030.) // Mail was unable to open
the URL
“message://%3c20210124214048.d35c4121...@mail.netagw.net%3E”.”

Thank you!

Christian

Isn't mbox great: one always has to specify a particular tool's
flavor...

If you want a reasonably portable mbox on your Desktop containing the
messages in a MM IMAP (not "Smart") folder, it's easily done with a
simple bit of shell calling the crufty old "formail" tool:

cd "~/Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Messages/IMAP/[account at
server]/[path-to-folder]/Messages/"
for fname in *.eml ; do formail < $fname ; done >
~/Desktop/Exported.mbox

If you want the delimiter lines' timestamps derived from Date headers
instead of now, the conversion gets more arcane and will not like
improper Date headers:

for fname in *.eml; do formail -a Date: < $fname ; done |
sed '/^From /s/, \(..\) \(...\) \(\) \(..:..:..\) .*/ \2 \1 \4 \3/'
> ~/Desktop/Exported.mbox

Unfortunately, there's no sound way to get the proper delivery date into
the delimiter lines unless you are an IMAP client, so Mail.app does one
thing unequivocally better than formail. Also, unlike Mail.app, formail
uses (CORRECTLY) the Return-Path header (if present) to derive the
delimiter line address instead of Mail.app's simple use of the From
message header and only adds blank lines ahead of delimiter lines on an
as-needed basis.

So, while MailMate won't duplicate what Apple Mail does, one can get
pretty close using the MailMate message store without MailMate doing the
actual work.

It is mildly amusing to learn that, as it means I'm not alone and in
respectable company. In my case the excuse is that the original Core Duo
can't do 64-bit mode and so can't run 10.7 or later, and I can't bear to
junk that old machine...

(Tangent: Senior mail admins are insanely over-represented on this
mailing list.)

I'm surprised that no one in this thread has yet mentioned the simple
ability to select messages in a MM message list and drag them to a
Finder window: a very fast way to create a file-per-message offline
local archive.
