I use [DavMail](https://davmail.sourceforge.net/) to access our company
Exchange. It's an IMAP/SMTP/*DAV/LDAP Exchange bridge. It also
translates IMAP keywords to/from Exchange Categories. I can also use
shared accounts through it.

Really fine tool that has been working smoothly here for years.

Moin yours,

since several test versions, the main window shows a blank mailboxes
view when re-opening the main window. Then I open a new tab (and close
the old one) and mailboxes are back again.

I tried it with a fresh mailboxes.plist, but same behaviour. I could try
it with a complete fresh Mailmate configuration, but i wanted to ask
here first before i start the work. :)

But… I noticed that when I delete an email in MM, two copies of it

I use DavMail (v6.0.1, server mode) to access the company exchange. I do

I cannot see any relevant differences to my DavMail configuration. There
don't seem to be any suitable hidden options with MailMate either.
Perhaps there are server-side settings regarding the deletion behaviour?

Fastmail has with "Masked Email" a similar feature. 1Password has

This is an unusual definition of spam. With this attidude, you will

At Fastmail one can give an folder a ham-or-spam-hint to tell the spam

That broad definition, encompassing things like accounts that don’t

If it is an option, maybe this is an option:

I have some (lower traffic) mail addresses at different providers (I

At Fastmail I have set up an "Identity". When I send an message (new or

For the other one, it looks like a conversion with your secondary

Filtering and Spam-Filtering (with strongest settings) is completely

Exchange categories help? Are they defined client side or server side?
I guess in the second case it won’t help.

At first: Tags are mapped on IMAP keywords. You have to define tuples of
Tag/keyword in MailMate settings. In case of Gmail they are triplets of
Tag/keyword/label.

Exchange-IMAP does not support IMAP kewords. But you can use DavMail as
a local Proxy. It speaks Exchange to the Exchange server and
IMAP/SMTP/CalDAV/CardDAV to the clients. The clients have to be
configured to speak to 127.0.0.1. This is the raw connection. The
authentication and transport encryption is still done between client and
server. So there is no security issue. This way Exchange categories are
mapped automatically to IMAP keywords.

The "tricky" part is merely to "sync" the used Tags/IMAP
keywords/Exchange categories. Unfortunately you have to do it by hand.
But if there are only few changes over time it is easy to do.

On every MailMate instance you have to define your tuples. On your
Exchange you can edit your Categories for instance via Outlook and maybe
OWA. The IMAP keywords will be the Categories. There are no tupels to
define on this side.

You just have to make sure that you do your mapping correctly on
MailMate.

It may look complicated, but it is not. :) If need more
information/help, please feel free to ask.

PS: I have attached my configuration for you (you have to change the
server URL). It lets DavMail run in server mode. In this mode, there is
no Menu Extra. In the past it did not run stable enough in GUI mode, but
in server mode it is rock solid. DavMail is a kick and forget
installation. :)

PPS: I have installed DavMail via Nix (a pure functional paket manager)
and it starts automatically. Maybe you have to do the autostart by
yourself?

This is for a single quota root name with 4 limits. A server could
have multiple quota roots and in that case “All Quota Limits”
would have a set of submenus. I haven't seen that “in the wild”
though.

Why it is reporting megabytes instead of gigabytes? MailMate is
reporting 69.1% (1.3MiB of 1.9MiB)", the Fastmail web interface 69%
(1382MB of 2000MB).

The "All quota limits" menu entry is not available for me (fastmail.fm).
It seems that gMail (gapps) has no QUOTA support.

That's fine if all your messages for a particular smart folder have
some common factor, such as a mailing list name. But what happens when
the mailing list changes its name or host or something?

I use this for my mailing lists:

 - the IMAP sorts the mailing lists into folders like
Mailinglisten/MailMate

 - in MailMate then I use a smart folder with
- Mailboxes: account
	- Conditions: Source.path contains Mailinglisten (I use the path
because two of my mailing lists don't use the ListID-header, otherwise I
would use this)

- Submailboxes: Source.path.noinbox and mail box format
${#source.path.noinbox/Mailinglisten\///} (this will name the subfolders
by their folder name without the full path, like MailMate)

If you then ever have a change in one of your mailing lists then you
only need to change the rule on the IMAP server and maybe to rename the
folder in case of a name change of the list.

Then I have another rule to filter out my mailing list postings out of
my combined Inbox/Sent smart folder:

 - Mailboxes: Inbox, Sent
 - Conditions: Message-Id is not in Mailinglisten Message-Id

When you then post to a mailing list, your sent mail will appear in your
Inbox/Send folder until you get your posting back from the list server.

I hope I understand your problem correctly and this will help. Maybe you
can transfer this logic to other use cases.

[MlMt] Problems with sending markdown

Why is my posting (which I got from list server) shown in plain text

Body Parts) to switch between plain text and markdown (they are not
shown). Another mails from this list with markdown have these options.
Convert markdown to html is also not available for my posting.

I have just looked into the raw mail and saw:

```
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; Format=flowed
```

The other markdown mails I received are:

```
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
 boundary==_MailMate_A20D5F45-0497-4AA3-8092-8CD6D6B61F9D_=
--=_MailMate_A20D5F45-0497-4AA3-8092-8CD6D6B61F9D_=
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; markup=markdown
.
.
.
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
```

What is going wrong here? Should I set up Mailmate completely new?

Maybe there is a problem with markdown-only mails?

[MlMt] Tags and Submailboxes

2015-02-10 Thread Mike Brasch

Moin Moin!

I'm using the latest 64bit version of Mailmate. I have a little issue
with the subfolders of my smart folder Tags. It is set up as
recommended in the latest release notes. If I have 3 mails with tags:

  - MailA with workinprogress
  - MailB with important
  - MailC with important and workinprogress (in this order).

I would expect to 2 subfolders:

  - important with MailB and MailC
  - workinprogress with MailA and MailC

Instead I get to subfolders:

  - important workinprogress with MailB and MailC
  - workinprogress with MailA and MailC

The mails shown in each subfolder are correct but the subfolder
important workinprogress should be named important

I haven't already tested it with more mails and more tags.

And in general I have the problem that the smart folders are not updated
until restart of Mailmate. If I tag another mail with a third tag, the
corresponding subfolder for this tag is only shown after a restart.

.
.
.

I have just done another test:

  - MailD with important, tobeanswered and workinprogress

expected:

  - important with MailB, MailC and MailD
  - workinprogress with MailA, MailC and MailD
  - tobeanswered with MailD

after the needed restart to update the subfolders:

  - important tobeanswered workinprogress with MailA, MailC and MailD
  - important tobeanswered workinprogress with MailD
  - important tobeanswered workinprogress with MailB, MailC and MailD

As before, the mails itself are sorted correctly but the subfolder
names are wrong.

Aaaah, great. :-) That was the problem. I did this many months before
after a tip to solve a specific problem (no idea what it was:-)).

In this context a little feature request (or should I open a ticket?):

Int the tag editor I'm missing a contextmenu (triggered by keystroke) to
look for a specific tag. Currently I use tags (display name) beginning
with _ (underscore) to get such a list. In the settings I use a mapping
like _atag to atag.

(I don't use real display names, like To be answered, because in older
versions of Mailmate I wasn't able to display this in subfolders.)

Thank you.

My IMAP server sorts out all mailing list mails into folders (which is
IMHO the correct instance for doing this). These folders are the sources
of my smart folder Mailinglists. I don't use the list-id because of 2
mailing lists which unfortunatly don't use it. Otherwise I would do so.
No conditions. Submailboxes with Source - Path. No rules.

Then, in the Inbox+Send smart folder, I use the condition

Message_Id is not in Mailinglists Message-Id

If I send a mail to a list, the sent mail appears in the Inbox+Send
folder until the is sent back from the list server.

If you want to do this in MailMate, you could do it as a rule on your

Double click on your INBOX to open the mailbox editor and go to tab

Re: [MlMt] show List-Id headers or more direct support for unsubcribe of mailing lists ?

2014-01-10 Thread Mike Brasch

On 10 Jan 2014, at 13:22, Benny Kjær Nielsen wrote:

How did it know which list you were writing to?

I think Messenger Pro derived it from the current folder and the
(manually maintained) list of all mailing lists. Maybe each list entry
had a path. I don't remember that completely. But it worked. Every time
I opened a new thread, MP automagically filled out the list specific
from and the to field. It behaved exactly like in a usenet client.

One way to realise it could be a simple user maintainable list of all
used mailing lists (the MP-way). This would be absolutely OK for me.

The other way could be automatic guessing derived from the header
information of the first n mails in current folder (I would expect that
all users of mailing lists let sort the messages into appropriate
folders.)

If I see the header, it might be difficult to find the correct
from-address. Often I used aliases which appears in a slightly different
version in each mail. One example is al...@provider.de appears in header
like X-Remote-Delivered-To: al...@123456provider.de. The correct
address al...@provider.de appears only in the 2nd Received:-block.

I think the first one is the more stable solution. Although it means
more work for the user. But it is easier for people like me who used
different addresses for subscribing to mailing lists over the years.
Currently, if I cannot remember, I have to look into the headers to get
the correct from-address which is really annoying.

Maybe such a list entry could be generated via context menu on a list
mail via header fields like List-post:.

If the currently selected message or mailbox has the information
needed then it can be done automatically. Actually, this code already
exists, but it was disabled because it was annoying for some users (I
forgot the details). MailMate used the `List-Post` header to create
the new message.

I've inserted a boolean to enable this code, but I haven't tested it.
You can tell me about any issues when the next test version is out :-)

defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmListPostLookupEnabled -bool YES

This does not work here. The to-field is always empty. Even in mailing
lists where I had written days ago.

Maybe an important detail: I'm using only one mail account. All other
addresses are either aliases of the main address or forwarding addresses
of other providers (via Personalities feature of Fastmail). All of these
addresses are inserted into the email addresses field of the account
settings.

Moin!

I have, with respect to the mailing lists, also a few wishes.

Many years ago (10 years), my favorite mail client on RISC OS
(Messenger Pro, mail and usenet client) had speacial features for
mailing lists. The feel of mailing lists was exactly the same as that of
Usenet-groups (incl. scoring, kill file etc.). If I, for example,
created a new thread in a mailing list, MP used automatically the
correct from-address. This was done via a manually maintained list of
mailing lists with their standard adresses (post, unsubscribe, help
etc.).

I don't know if it will be difficult du do this automatically. It would
be OK for me to do it manually.
