Re: [MlMt] MailMate slowness?!

2019-10-12 Thread Peter Stevens

Hi,

I have a much newer Mac - copying the email address from an email takes
“forever”. Right-Click on the from field, wait about 5s (after about
2s the spinning ball appears), then I can select copy name, copy
address, etc.

Cheers,

Peter

Hello,

After a while of not using a Mac, I just got a secondhand MB Air
(2015) and of course installed MailMate. I have had a (very) similar
machine before, but I can’t really remember if MailMate was so slow
on that as well. For example, if I click the reply button or type
COM-R, it takes about 3-4 seconds for the window to show, sometimes I
even see the spinning ball. 3-4 Seconds don’t seem that long but
with the stock Mail application, the window appears instantly.
Also, when typing with MD preview, I actually type faster than the
characters appear on the screen, also in the text window. Something I
haven’t seen since the days of a serial terminal :) None of my other
applications seems so slow/sluggish.

I understand my system is far from being a powerhouse, but I never
considered MM to be a ‘heavy’ application.

Angelo

Re: [MlMt] subfolders only if unread ?

2017-02-05 Thread Peter Stevens

I have a similar problem…

When I send an email to very busy thread, I want to go back to it to
follow up an any responses. So I search for “From me”, select the
folder containing the thread, and find my message quickly. So far so
good.

Now I want to read the answers. I clear the filter to see other
messages. Now I see the whole folder, but my message is no longer
selected. And again, I have no easy way to find it (or more correctly,
to find responses to message).

Am I missing something? Or should clearing the search leave the current
message and folder selected?

Best,
Peter

My current workaround is to toggle the sorting to unread first.

But it has the disadvantage that threading gets all messed up.

Yours has the problem i would loose the current selection and would
need to search/naviagte for that again.

Having a show/hide unread is built into all mail clients I know
except mailmate and apple mail ;)

It may well be possible to do with some of the commands available in
the key shortcuts. Being able to chain actions makes it quite
powerful. I’d look for commands to do something like:

open mailbox in new window
change search to show only un/read
It’s not quite the same, but should be usable with a single
keystroke.

Re: [MlMt] Request: t searches default to sent folder

How about defaulting to the folder you are currently in? This makes it
much more like Thunderbird’s “quick filter”, a feature I really
miss.

When you do a search, the selected folder switches to “All

Does it make sense to have that be the default for such searches, or
would others not find that to be useful?

Re: [MlMt] Eudora's mail concatenation in MailMate

2017-01-11 Thread Peter Stevens
A Mailmate tips/tricks resource would very useful to fill the gap
between the manual (which should be very minimal) and this ~support
list (which is great but a noisy way to build practical knowledge).

+1

I have found the online documentation to be quite unhelpful. It’s all
about doing really amazing guru level stuff, but I am still trying to
figure out the basics. Even finding a guide to markdown was a challenge.

Some of these issues might better be handled through better usability.
Why not just have some buttons to insert markdown templates? So
documentation is isn’t necessary the answer (even if it can be a quick
fix for deeper problems).

Cheers,
Peter

This isn't intended as a criticism of MM at all — on the contrary,
I'm just thinking about a resource that could help it to grow.

[MlMt] Disable copying messages to "Sent:"

2017-01-11 Thread Peter Stevens

Hi everyone,

New user here! Apologies if I am asking stupid questions. I just moved
from Thunderbird (decided I had had enough of the spinning wheel of
death), and am trying to get an equivalent configuration going. I did
not find anything useful on the [preferences
page](https://manual.mailmate-app.com/preferences). If someone could
point me to the right place so I can RTFM, that would be great!

My provider automatically copies outgoing mail to my Sent box, so I
don’t need MailMate to do it for me. How do I deactivate that?

Thanks in advance
../Peter
