Thanks for your careful description. Wah, I want to open and edit and save as new name and location, but I guess I can relearn my pattern. Maybe I can teach Hazel to open .doc files in Downloads? hmmm, that might make a mess. So the upshot of this is that my issue is a feature, not a bug. Annamarie, My 2¢… On my version of MM, 1.14 Test Build 5964, also on the last official Beta release of 1.14 (5937) (you can get a list of all releases from the Help Menu, without installing them), the double-click, assuming that is what you are doing, does indeed open a read-only version of the file assuming MacOS and the app in question supports it. Annamarie, Bingo. MM is smart enough to see the two actions differently and goes ahead with the method you’ve requested. Yes, good to hear you confirm that the down arrow icon does what it always has (download to selected location, the download folder by default). That’s why I asked, I’d be worried if it didn’t. It has in past versions and still does. So, the real question then could be, “How do I open a file by double clicking it (or substitute the actual shortcut steps you’d be wanting to take)?” And the answer is that read only may be kind of like the quick look eye icon also located next to the down arrow on the attachment strip. Annamarie, This may have been asked before, but how are you opening attachments which give you a Read-Only indication: 1. Double-Click on the attachment in the message, in MM? 2. Use arrow key to download to the default folder (usually Downloads) and open from there to its default app (E.G. Preview or others)? 3. Some other way… Specifically what? Thanks for responding. I’ve come back to this issue after a busy few weeks. Implemented the code as directed in Terminal and it is not having any effect. I am not a coder but understand that I open Terminal, paste the code as copied, and hit return. Am I missing a step? yes, I quit MM and rebooted computer. HI Ever since moving to a new computer, all my attachments in MM open as “Read Only.” It’s very annoying and I can not figure out where to change a setting. I’m assuming it’s a setting. ?
