I have the answer to this. It was still happening in 5757 on my home machine, but I noticed it did not happen on my work laptop - same version of OSX. I reselected the Desktop and it appeared as a Blueish folder, and lo the “Save Attachment to Default Downloads Folder” icon to the top right of the body of the message now works again. So the issue was it had forgotten where my Desktop was, and was trying to write to a (presumably) non-existent place. So this is probably a bug. I can confirm the second issue (running 5748). I think it depends how you "exit" the search to trigger the issue. The search box still contains the string you last used, but if you click in that search box and press return (or use the drop down search icon and select the same search) it will not re-run the search. You either have to enter some other text to search for and then reenter your desired search OR select a previous search from the drop down search icon and then select your desired previous search (manually or from the drop down search icon).
