I've unchecked the box, which I must have checked in error some time in the distant past. Ultimately, it would be helpful to be able to revert to defaults selectively, or at least to have the default values noted in the docs, so that one can reverse mistaken configurations like this without throwing out every custom setting one ever made. The plain text aspect of MailMate and the HTML generation is certainly something that sets MailMate apart from other email clients. I'm aware that there's a steep learning curve here, but as I think I wrote in the manual, the default settings should work for most users. I use the recommended styling method and the "Generate HTML even if only for styling" box is checked. The latter is not the default. It'll trigger all messages to have an HTML alternative generated. When possible, a simple plain text message is what works best for most recipients. (An HTML signature would also trigger this behavior.) But there is a bug here. If the preview is collapsed by dragging the separator then MailMate fails to remember it and it'll popup again. If you use the toolbar icon to do it instead then it shouldn't happen. Then, the message becomes multi-part and the preview pane appears so you can see what the HTML part will look like. I don’t see anything obvious in your message that would trigger this, but the line at the bottom is obviously an HTML `` and not just a string of text, so maybe it’s something in your signature? I don't use a signature, but you're probably on the right track. In any case, you might want to experiment with the options under Preferences → Composer → Preview: Display. It's set to display the preview "when generating HTML." I don't know why my message should have generated HTML unless *all* messages generate HMTL when "Markdown" is selected at the top of the message composer window. I'll change the preferences to never display the preview window and that'll probably take care of it. I do want to be able to display the preview manually, so I hope I can still do so when I use that setting. I don't understand the styling settings even after reading the help, so I hope it doesn't have anything to do with those. I think it’s documented somewhere (maybe on the `twopointoh` page?), but I think this is what’s happening. By default, when you type a message, it’s just plain text and stays that way *unless* you type something that Markdown can turn into HTML. Then, the message becomes multi-part and the preview pane appears so you can see what the HTML part will look like. For example, this message had no preview pane until I typed the ticks above. I like this personally, but that’s because I expect it and use it. I hid the preview pane after the word "reappears" and waited about 30 seconds to see if the preview pane would reappear without keyboard input. It didn't, so I typed the next sentence. I paused at the end of that sentence, and about two seconds later, up popped the preview pane again. I'm using build 5263. I am experiencing the same or similar. Not sure what the trigger is but the preview pane cracks open at the bottom of the window. I yank it shut and a while later notice it is back. I will watch to see if I can determine what the trigger is (if any). That happened too! I finally dragged the separator all the way to the bottom to hide the preview, but the preview kept creeping up so four or so lines displayed! This is a very playful build of MailMate.___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com https://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
