Re: [mailop] Earthlink Unblock Requests

2017-11-01 Thread Staudinger, Malcolm
Sorry I missed this - am getting less and less involved in ELNK consumer mail
abuse/delivery these days.

We recently found an issue that was causing outbound replies from some of our
abuse automation to end up on the floor, and it's corrected now, so give it
another shot, and please feel free to reach out to me off-list on specific IPs
if you're still having issues

Ditto to anyone that was missing feedback loop emails, they should be flowing
again as well

+1 to Al. Also I thought the fun old days of obscure dnsbls run by cranks was
long gone, I’m happy (!) to see that nothing much has changed.

Our range has been listed and they've cited a poor senderbase score, but
senderbase lists everything as "good." So hoping to chat with someone if
they're on here. Thanks!

Seems to have tailed off from a peak around 8am eastern this morning, but we're
still seeing a few percent failure like the below

error from remote mail server after initial connection: host
mailin-01.mx.aol.com [64.12.88.131]: 421 mtaiw-mae07.mx.aol.com Service
unavailable - try again later

error from remote mail server after initial connection: host

Hi Frank,

It would seem that you are not alone. We received word form AOL about some
issues they were dealing with this morning and that they were working through
them.

Regards,
Andrew

We saw this over noon hour yesterday (Wednesday), and now again today, since
6:19 am U.S. Central:
421 4.2.1 "Service unavailable. Please try again later."
We're seeing this on multiple IPs, such as 152.163.0.68, 152.163.0.99,
152.163.0.100, and 64.12.88.163.

The last email that we delivered was 2:40 am -- though one did deliver at
10:43 am.

Downdetector shows that AOL is having some kind of email issue:

I'm seeing ~5% of our outbound mail to AOL failing with 4.2.1 service
unavailable timeouts, seems to be doing fine overall retrying and getting thru
on the 2nd or 3rd attempt

I've seen the second one of these once. There was no preceeding feedback
report, just a bunch of bounced list messages.

I filed a service ticket asking what this meant and why wasn't there a feedback
report. A few days later I was told that the problem was fixed, and that if I
wanted to avoid this in the future I needed to set up a feedback loop, see this
URL for an explanation of how to do that.

Sigh.
