MI RE: one to many relationships

2000-06-02 Thread juanse barros

As far as i have tried Mi is not able to handle that posibility. It handles
one to one relations only, but do not manages all to one. I wish it could,
for handling multiple variables for the same region (schools for ejample, or
menu item opf a restaurant-point).

I guess this is because space is a one by one layer world. Only one atom can
be at "its one" space. Otherwise is a second flor, or one single room of a
school that you have over a single region named floor. I can be bother to
draw each detail of the schools (more than 4000) or students (their are in
movement and which system handles 1.000.000 gps signals arriving
simultaneously). Kind of Brazil! the movie.

If you find something please sumarize.

Asunto: MI: one to many relationships

Hello,

I am not sure if I have asked this question before, so I will try
again.

Has anyone tried joining a one to many relationship in MI?

My experience has been that tables do join, but only one record seems
to display with the information tool

Any suggestions?

TIA

Peter

MI GIS Consultants Milwaukee Area

2000-06-02 Thread Robert Glazier

Hello list,

Is anyone aware of individuals or, groups in the Madison - Milwaukee, WI areas
whose business concontrates on GIS analysis. I'm particularly interested in
Business GIS. These types of business are not always listed in the yellow pages
and internet searches have not been particularly fruitful.

Currently, I am employed as a Market Analyst for very large health care provider
in SE Wisconsin. 50% of my time is spent on GIS analysis the other 50% involves
secondary research and analysis. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, my
Director feels that GIS is best suited for "making maps"; for simply plotting
where are facilities are in relation to patients with the occasional market
share analysis and is not really suited for much more than that.

I have tried to market GIS to various leaders in the organization and have been
met with enthusiastic response. Our organization is literally huge and
multi-faceted which should allow for a much more integrated GIS approach to
strategic planning and decision support but was recently told to essentially
quit wasting my time and get back to "real market analysis".

To make a long story short I would like to explore other opportunites but have
had a tough time finding organizations, or individuals, within the Milwaukee
area providing market research with a strong emphasis on business GIS.

At the very least I'd like to network with people "of my kind" and gain exposure
to what other people are doing with GIS.

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction?

Thanks much for your time,

Robert S. Glazier

MI Rotate MapWindow and MapExtreme Java

2000-06-02 Thread Francois Bergeron

Hi!

I was wondering if MapExtreme Java can support projections that results
from the Rotate MapWindow tools in MI. In my workspace (.wor), this
tools transform the projection like:

CoordSys Earth Projection 1, 0 Affine Units "mi", -0.707107, -0.707107,
-0.310624, 0.707107, -0.707107, -0.991335

Can MapJ support it?

Thanks in advance!!

You can download an Adobe Postcript Printer driver from the Adobe web site and

MI Text Labels symbols

Ok all.

I have a number of point symbols that have Attributes. The points are located close

Is there a way of dispersing the labels from each point without

The other issue is about fonts. In the mapper window the font
Is one size and in the layout window it is another. It's becoming a Problem as I have

MI Drive Time Program

2000-06-02 Thread Kent Saunders

Hey Everybody,

I'm sure this has been discussed in the past, but does anyone know of a good
drive time program (creating drive time polygons)?

- Years ago, I used the On Target Mapping engine, but it seems to be
history now.

- Last year, I saw Routeview's software, but it seems to be a MapInfo
secret or it's just not being produced anymore (???).

- I have Claritas' iMark software that has a drive time engine included,
but I'll be replacing that shortly for many other reasons.

I am currently using MapInfo 5.5 so something compatible would be nice.
Texas will be the only state I will be running drive times in, so I don't
really need a complete street database for the entire country.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

MI Northwood's Symbol Plotter

Hello,

I just started using this utility, but noticed a discrepancy between

It appears that MI honours the true north and measures angles counter

measures the angle clockwise.

Has anyone else experienced this?

MI: MapInfo will not start

2000-06-02 Thread Lavoie, Claude

MI 5.0 is installed one of our machines ( PIII-450, 128 meg RAM, NT 4.0,
SP4) in profile All Users. It runs smoothly for a while, then upon
launching one day displays the message "(c:\program
files\mapinfo\professional\mapinfow.mnu:11) Unrecognized command: Workspace
..."; MapInfo then opens with the following message "The file MAPINFOW.MNU
is missing or damaged; MapInfo is unable to start. Please call Tech
Support".

I searched the archives and found a thread about a similar problem to which
Cindy, from MapInfo Tech Support, answered that the problem might lie in the
startup workspace. I therefore deleted from it a RUN APPLICATION statement,
to no avail.

Any idea of what the problem is?

Hello,

If you get ghostscript and gsview (it's free, you will need
both) from: http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/you
will be able to print .PS or .EPS files (also reads .PRN)to a .PDF
file. If you do not have the Acrobat Reader, you can view your PDF's with
gsview. Help is well documented.

They also have a printer driver (redmon) that will let you
print from any application to a postscript file, or use your non-postscript
printer to print postscript. This utility is a bit tricky to configure,
but the instructions are very good.

RouteView for MapInfo is available. The main feature of RouteView is that it
can be used any street map such as StreetInfo or StreetPro and constructs a
connected graph of streets for routing and drive-time polygons. Price is
$1,200.

Another solution is Freeway from AGS which does not need any street maps.
Price is $395. for the entire United States.

RouteView and Freeway are available from Tetrad Computer Applications Inc.
