Just thought that this would be an interesting exercise to do. Here is
a world map at: http://show.mappingworlds.com/world/ (these people do
mapping for the UN)

If you go to People - Demographies - Population, it will show you
a map represented in the shape of size of country size in proportion
to the population of the earth. This gives us the results that most of
us know (at least I hope) but more in a visual form.

Cheers

Marc

Hi Marc,
Looking at some of the other stats are as or more interesting, IMHO.

Andy

I'm looking at it from a marketing point of view. From a personal point
of view, yes, the other stats are more interesting. :-)

[libreoffice-marketing] presentation on LibreOffice + discussion in Utrecht

2010-12-07 Thread Cor Nouws

Hi all,

After a presentation at the ODF-Plugfest (Brussels, October 15), a booth
for OOo combined with LibreOffice (Brasschaat, Belgium, November 5), and
a booth for LibreOffice, combined with OOo (Eindhoven, November 6).. :

Next Saturday I'll be giving a presentation on LibreOffice at an event
of the Dutch Linux User Group, and also nl-OOo lists are invited.

Look forward to a fruitful discussion.
It will be in Utrecht: http://www.nllgg.nl/bijeenkomst_20101211

I'll give a presentation, with some data about development, BrOffice
dev-center, stats and so on.

IIRC, Florian gave a presentation recently.
Is that available Florian, to borrow some of your ideas ;-)

Thanks,
Cor

Thanks for doing all of this. You should take photos and share some with
us. Let us know how it went and with maybe some details. Maybe blog
about it?

it would be interesting to mashup world internet users to LO/OO downloads

Yes, hence the survey and data that people are so concerned about. We could
probably do this through the downloads page and counting country-specific
downloads. I wouldn't be surprised if Michael would have already accounted for
this somewhere in the Drupal site.

I heard some years ago that Sun's strategy for promoting OOo was to focus on
the developing countries, for two primary reasons. The first, made obvious in
these maps, is their large populations and thus potential for huge new user
bases. (The second was because they haven't adopted any office suite yet, since
computer use is low. Thus, they have much less inertia to overcome.)

Yes and in fact, MSO has tried to break into these markets by offering
deep discounted prices in order to fight piracy.

We should also try to break into these markets as well. This is where
establishing a strong localised marketing team is important. I believe
that we could make quite a difference in that way.
