Can you post your ideas? I'll be glad to add mine. Maybe that will

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Mascot-Logo for LibreOffice/TDF

2011-10-28 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I took the image and made the larger one with the text an 800 pixel wide
image.

http://libreoffice-na.us/mascoteLibOLF--edited-1a.png
It is not as sharp as it should be, since I had to blow up the original
one and smooth out the edges of the image. But it is large enough to
see how it might look.

If you find the original image file - Inkscape .svg would be nice - then
it would be easier to make a larger image to use.

I can imagine that one on T-Shirts and similar - but as a general
mascot it looks to mean/bad-ass :-))

(and I assume you'd be OK with putting it on shirts, etc despite ©

Christian

I am not sure that it looks mean/bad-ass to me. But there is something about
the character's smile that might be seen that way.

I think maybe having some text saying that he is the mascot for LibreOffice would help it. Using something like
Join me in using LibreOffice, the best free office suite around, LibreOffice is a suite deal, or
LibreOffice, liberate your office suite from the big bad MS giant, under the mascot would get the message across
about what he is the mascot for. Right now people would not know that Libo could be short for LibreOffice.

I would not mind getting a larger version of this mascot and see about making a
tee-shirt with an iron-on media. I would have to get an image that is at least
5 or 6 inches across [whatever it would be in millimeters or pixels. Maybe a
full page Inkscape .svg document [letter or A4] would do as well. I would use
Inkscape to create the document to print on the iron-on media. If it look
good, I could see how much it would cost to have a few made up at an online
company out of New York City that does this type of printing and does
embroidery as well. Their minimum order is 4 pieces, so it would be easy to
get then.

Actually having a tee-shirt would be nice, but having it printed/embroidered on
a polo-style shirt at the pocket area, maybe 2-3 inches across, would look more
professional for shows and events. Larger is not always better, just easier to
see from a greater distance.

SO Lucas, would you mind sending me a larger copy of the mascot, but not the ones with the
background colors. It would need to be off the list. Eitherwebmas...@krackedpress.com
orwebmas...@libreoffice-na.us would be a good email address to sent it to. I really
like to see what I can do with that mascot and some text to make an interesting shirt with it.

 Hello,

The Document Freedom Day is an initiative that has been launched a few
years ago, and it celebrates the use of ODF and open standards for
documents. It takes place every 31st of March all over the world.

This year, planning will start soon, and it would be good to have a
strong LibreOffice presence in terms of volunteers and actions. Feel
free to engage on the website directly: http://documentfreedom.org

or set up an ad-hoc team who will work on concrete actions for this
 celebration.

 Best,

 Charles.

Hi,

Thanks for the reminder.

Other than handing over LibreOffice (in DVD or else) and flyers on that
day, is there anything specific we could prepare with regards to
LibreOffice ?

In Quebec province we've recently put together a LibrePlanet group and
this is among other activities we're promoting locally.

See:
http://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:LibrePlanet_Quebec

This group structure has the advantage of being inclusive of all
Gnu/Linux distributions and other OSs as well, while pushing for broader
tech freedom advocacy in other bubbles that are not always exposed to
such information (including arts, agriculture, etc.).

I encourage other local advocacy groups to check the LibrePlanet groups
structure and start one if appropriate:
http://libreplanet.org/wiki/Form:Group

Cheers,

Some that immediately to mind:
* Reach: LibreOffice has reached a huge audience in short time, thanks
to fast adoption in the major Gnu/Linux distributions and several big
deployments
* Growing support: things like this seem more and more frequent, at a
local level: http://www.lanedo.com/libreoffice.html
* Health: recent TDF governance history and development points in the
right direction, there's every indication it's here to stay
* Funding (re: recent appeal to donations from OOo)

Those are the ones I can fit in a 3 minute explanation. Writing to a
website / software bundle editor requires a bit more tact not to fall
into agressive solliciting ;)

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Getting occurrences of OpenOffice.org changed to LibreOffice - suggestions ?

2011-10-28 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I assume that they probably don't take much notice of individuals especially if
the individual seems tooo keen on their product. After they have had
differently worded requests from a large(ish) number of people they might start
to look into it.

It would be great to have a standard thing to copypaste (and perhaps modify a
little) instead of risking being too much like Richard Stallman or too polite.
Richard Stallman's approach does seem to get things done but it's good to give
people a fair chance first.

Regards from
Tom :)
