not only the consumption of power / CO2 pollution by using the software
is key, but also the ones that are used to work on / create the
software. TDF is using a lot of power (server farms or local) to work
and improve the software. Maybe TDF is also shipping hardware around to
developers.

But the LibreOffice users has always to download a complete build of
LibreOffice, once a new main or minor version was published (for
security or improvement reasons). This consume a lot of resources and
had an impact on the environment.

Thus there are this first steps of action, which came to my mind:
* contract only services, which run on green power (e.g. photovoltaic or
wind)
* try to calculate the consumption of non-green-power by the
contributors to the project and compensate
* build incremental updates for LibreOffice
* pay attention to the minimal requirements to run LibreOffice on a
machine (thus there is not the need to buy regularly new machines for
this purpose)

Our community also has - e.g. when traveling to the conference. Marina thus 
a few moth ago started a discussion in MC how to compensate this.

Timely for me. Thank you

I am  in the throws of advocating and negotiating a change of platforms a
fairly large international membership group, USA side, that currently using
Red Hen, DRUPAL Project as their platform.

They are in the midst of migration prep to utilize MailChimp, Wild Apricot
(not the free core offering), and MS-365.

A question was posed to me about sustainability and COPYLEFT.

I was greatful for the question because it allowed me, a new Board of
Directors candidate, to continue using COPYLEFT language which 99% had
never even heard of. Thus a first exposure to COPYLEFT Philosophy and wacky
words.

I now have  reason to bring up the conversation again via email this
email's info.

* As Italo mentions, there's also the marketing plan which looks at
sustainability of the project as a whole, especially in terms of the
ecosystem around LibreOffice, contributing a lot of code and features

There is also the subject of project sustainability, which has been 
discussed within the marketing plan. On this topic there is a slide deck 
on Nextcloud, which I have already used for some FOSS events (including 
esLibre a few hours ago).

interesting to hear others. Maybe there are other things that fall under
"sustainability" in relation to LibreOffice that I haven't listed here.

If we identify things we're doing right, and areas where we can do more,
this can be good for general promotion and advocacy of LibreOffice. Not
in the "look how great we are" sense -- but as a way to get more people
on board, and make them feel like they're contributing to something
beyond "just an office suite".
