Wrong list. If you want to learn about whales, you don't ask about them
on the telephones list.

Wrong assumption.

Marketing is about spreading LibreOffice and thus about spreading
information about it's features.

Even if the disabled are a marketing area neglected by many other
products - I don't think that we need to follow this way.

In the opposite: We should consider Accessibility Marketing as an
important part of our strategy.

If we didn't by now, this is neither Timothy's nor any other's fault.

Wrong comparison.

He doesn't want to learn to talk to whales, but asks for information
about whales on the list of a mammal research institute.

Wrong tone.

If you don't have any *positive* contribution it is far better to shut
up and let others comment his request.

Providing him with the necessary links to find out himself as Drew did
would have helped much.

And using this posting as basis for the creation of a dedicated
marketing activity about accessibility would be even better...

Best regards

Bernhard

PS: And if you think it is better to subscribe to a list and unsubscribe
after a few days - that's your opinion and you could have told this in a
friendly manner. Do you know how easy it is for impaired people? I don't
- and neither me nor you have the right to judge.

Thanks Bernhard. I get ticked-off [I would use other language, but not
here] when people do not seem to want to deal with helping people with
accessibility issues within their packages. As I understand it, from
staff on agencies that work with the disables/impaired individuals, the
numbers of individuals needing accessibility options is a growing
percent of the population in the USA. I am one of those individuals. I
have learned to compensate for my issues since the early 1970's. My
typing skill is affected but back when I started typing, there was no
options to use to help people. With the spread of speech-to-screen
computer controlling packages, this helps many individuals, but not me.
My speech is also affected since my first stroke. But, I deal with it
my own way.

So it would be nice to get information to be passed on to those agency
staffers. I did get someone to point me to a wiki page to help me see
the goals of the LibreOffice Accessibility work. I thank that
individual for his help.

[libreoffice-marketing] help please - accessibility info

2011-03-03 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

help please - accessibility info

I do not want to be a part of the Accessibility List, but I would like
to know what is being done to help those with this type of issue.

I am on the Board of the Kiwanis Aktion Club of Elmira New York. This
Kiwanis family organization [International, Regional, and Local] is
dedicated to the adult community that have a disability or some type.
You must be an adult with a disability/impairment to be invited to
become a member.

So, I am always interested in ways for software packages [and computers
in general] to be accessible to the needs of those with
disabilities/impairments, to allow these individuals to be able to use
the products. I deal with many members with hand injury issues to
developmental issues. I deal with a few blind individuals as well, but
that that is a much harder impairment issue group to use computers,
except through voice controlled and text reading systems.

Could I receive some information on what is in the future of
LibreOffice's accessibility efforts? Would a list of what some needs
for some the various disables/impaired individuals to make a software
package fulfill those needs? I myself and physical impairments and
other issues placed upon me from several major injuries and three
strokes. That is why I am volunteering my time to help those who have
it difficult to function in the local community like myself.

Board Member of the Kiwanis Aktion Club of Elmira NY, part of the
Kiwanis Family of Organizations that support the local, regional, and
world communities.

Could someone who is on that list forward my request? Does someone have
to be on that list to get accessibility info? I did state that I do not
want to be a part of the Accessibility list but would like some information.

Ok - let's start here - have you looked at the wiki page?
 http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Accessibility

If you start with that page, what other information are you looking for?

sorry for answering myself - but - for one thing the extensions
information is well a bit weak, the information regarding ODTBraille.oxt
is not present and the others lacking, IMO.
