Re: Shotwell article
I read the article. It should be signed by you, Justin, not me. Nothing survived from what I wrote. Besides that, looks fine. I'm looking back at the meeting minutes now, and I'm seeing that we forgot to actually come up with a firm schedule other than the GPG article on Monday. I think this might be good to ship on Wednesday morning if we can get a banner for it on Monday or Tuesday. I just finished making a pass of edits. I made a few minor changes to formatting with the inclusion of headers and adding information about installing Shotwell for users who might not have it. I also swapped out the screenshots with new ones because they had a lot of your desktop background and customizations in the picture. It's cool to see all that can be done with Fedora, but it might also be confusing for readers who are using the default desktop when they see that the screenshots look different from what they see. It's now saved in "pending review" status and content should be ready to go for next week! -- Cheers, Justin W. Perfect! I'm finishing the banner. I'll send an email once I've got it done. Cheers, Sylvia On 17/01/2016, Justin W. I'm doing so and I find Gthumb and Gwenview as good alternatives. Photos is unusable. F-Spot isn't available in Fedora (any reasons…?). So I'll write a bit about their features and differences with Shotwell and between them. Then a couple of screenshots and it's done. Cheers, Sylvia On Sunday, 17 January 2016, Justin W. OK. Then I'm installing some programmes today and let's see what I find. Flory: I said about Digikam exactly the opposite. I said Digikam is way more complicated and featured than Shotwell. While I would like to put the effort in on finishing the article I want to work on the GPG series and HDYF more. With the fact I just took on mentoring a robotics team my time is also a bit short right now. [Magazine] Discussion about Shotwell article
Hello all, In the last ten minutes of the Magazine meeting today, we discussed the status of the Shotwell article currently sitting in the Drafts category. I think the last time we left off with it, its purpose and future were a bit unclear. Now, we know some things to be true. 1) Shotwell is definitely leaving Fedora in the near future as it is no longer being maintained. 2) Its future replacement, GNOME Photos, is not ready and likely will not be ready even for Fedora 24 (mentioning it now isn't worth it). 3) This article would be better focused on writing and introducing some alternative software to Shotwell. With all of these things in mind, it would be nice to convert this article to an introduction in one of the alternative programs available in Fedora. Sylvia (lailah / Kohane) pointed out one being Digikam, and someone else mentioned Gthumb as a possibility. Since this was originally Charles's article, we were hoping he could clarify about what he wants to write about or if this is an article he still wants to follow through with. @Charles, if you are no longer interested in writing this, we can set it up and leave it the Holding Pen as a possible article that someone could write in the future either when they have free time or maybe as low-hanging fruit for someone interested in writing about Fedora software. Looking forward to seeing what we decide to do with this one! -- Cheers, Justin W.
