Next marketing meeting proposal - 12/12/2012 20:00 UTC
I'm proposing the same time in two weeks. If that is not acceptable, we can organize a different time. We had a pretty successful meeting, and so we are proposing that we meet bi-weekly by phone with a possible IRC supplementary conversation. We will probably want to find a place to store minutes so that we can keep track? The topic for next meeting is community outreach. This is somewhat of an explosive topic, and we might need more than the 1 hour to discuss this. We might want to people outside the marketing team as well. Marketing Meeting Minutes
Hi all! We had a marketing meeting on a conference call today, with a few also participating on IRC (mostly Xan, and Fabiana & Andreas Nilson who had problems with connections -if I missed anyone sorry!!). Deindre also participated - I think both on the phone & IRC though I'm not 100% on that :) These are my notes/minutes from the meeting. If anyone else has stuff to add please do so! Introductions: Sririam Ramkrishna Karen Sandler Emily Gonyer Oliver Propst Allan Day Fabiana Simões Seif Lotfy (mid meeting) Friends of GNOME: Olivier: Web/Webkit Pros: Web is very important today, and our in-house browser could use some love. Web applications are becoming more important, and making people excited about us via a great in-house browser could be a boost. Cons: Webkit2 features - relating to privacy/security how to tie into a broader campaign? Difficultly getting our message across without a lengthy period of figuring out our message. Emily: Privacy/Security Pros: Buzz creation, something different and important to virtually everyone Cons: how to implement privacy and security in gnome design Seif: Usability Pros: user involvement, online buzz, we care about users. Cons: it would be better to do at a later date for various reasons - Tentative agreement for Karen to reach out to the Tor Project (https://www.torproject.org) and others for a campaign related to Privacy and Security. We're also hoping to have bi-weekly meetings going forward, as we all thought this one went well. Emily -- Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Revisiting rewards for the FoG campaigns
Hi ! I think maybe is good idea to revisit our rewards. What we have now is: Associate: US $25-$500 => GNOME mouse pad + stickers + recognition of your contribution Sponsor: US $500-$1200 => coffee mug + T-Shirt + recognition of your contribution Philantropist: US $1200+ => print of the GNOME foot signed by the Board + recognition of your contribution Adopt a hacker: US $10/month=> stickers + hacker signed postcard + LWN subscription + recognition of your contribution + T-Shirt (after the 1st year) [AFAIK, the low figure here is for making be FoG affordable to people from all countries ] I think FoG campaigns are similar to the popular crowdfunding campaigns on sites like kickstarter or IndieGoGo and we can learn from them. For example, we could add more rewards options and even those rewards can be related to topic of the campaign. GNOME in the press
Hi, I may only do this once, but I've added it to my calendar as a weekly thing. Let's see how it goes... (in general, we're taking some knocks, so this is going to be hard sometimes - if people don't like to see this let me know, but I think it's better to at least be aware of who's writing about us, and what they're saying). Here's a summary of GNOME in the news for the last few days (courtesy of Google News Alerts).
