GNOME Exhibitor Booth
I am writing to inquire whether or not the GNOME Foundation has any scheduled presence at the Ohio Linux Fest. If not, we would very much like to arrange some space and take part in the conference. Please let us know if this would be possible. Thank you, Christer -- marketing-list mailing list marketing-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing-list
Ohio Linux Fest
I've just finalized my plans for attending the Ohio Linux Fest. I wonder if there are any plans for GNOME to have a presence there? If so I'd like to contribute. If not, I'd be happy to handle the booth. Thanks, Christer -- marketing-list mailing list marketing-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing-list

Do you already have content ready to push to the GNOME servers when this subdomain is configured? (I need to side with Olav in this case and use the lk.gnome.org language based sub-domain. If you do not have content might I suggest using Wordpress hosted on th GNOME servers. You can work on themes via git, but the content itself can be managed via the web interface. My thoughts anyway. litl arrival - GNOME slideshow
I'm happy to report that the donated [1] litl has arrived at my place and it is pretty slick! I think these will be really nice to have in the event boxes (and nice publicity for litl, of course.) I'd like to revisit the request I made about a month ago regarding a GNOME features slideshow. If the marketing gurus could come up with some graphics that we could display in the litl slideshow card I think it'd really help demonstrate what GNOME is about. I attached an example of what the KDE team was using in my initial email. I'm sure it's in the archives (too busy/lazy to dig up the link currently). In any case, the N. American event box now has a litl to add to its collection and I definitely think it's going to draw some attention. Booth Slides
Marketing & Artistic-types - I'm manning the GNOME booth this year at the Utah Open Source Conference. They planted us just next to the KDE booth, I'm sure as a little joke. In any case, the KDE booth has a nice graphical slideshow of information about KDE. While we have more swag (stickers, etc) they have active information rotating about their project. I've asked him to share the tarball of the graphics collection with me and I was hoping that some of the talented people here could come up with something similar. I realize it may be too late to come up with something for this conference, but something similar would be great for upcoming SCALE and similar conferences. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/312414/Presentation.tgz I hope we'll be able to come up with something similar for future conferences.. Booth request follow-up
I can't seem to find the wiki page with the conference booth request and schedule so this was the next best place. The Utah Open Source Conference is next week (Oct 7-9). I've been planning on running the booth there. If anyone can point me in the right direction to make sure that it gets where it needs to go when it needs to be there, I'd appreciate it. I'll keep an eye on this list for the "sales points" you come up with. Hopefully they'll be effective at the conference. I'll try to give feedback post-conference for any improvements, but I might need a reminder :) Christer -- marketing-list mailing list marketing-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing-list
Utah Open Source Conference - Oct 2010
I've been quiet on this list for some time, but I thought this might be of some interest. Each year the Salt Lake City (UT) Open Source community puts on an Conference (http://2010.utosc.com). The call for papers just officially went out, which means it is also time to get things organized for the GNOME booth. I managed the booth last year (and Stormy did a keynote at the conference). I am more than willing to manage the booth again this year. I just wanted to get the word out about the dates ASAP. In other words "I call dibs on the booth October 7-9, 2010!" :) I would suggest anyone else in the region check out the website and consider attending. I have attended/presented for the last four years and it has been a lot of fun each time! Please let me know / remind me what I need to do in order to schedule and arrange for the booth, as well as get GNOME listed as an exhibitor. -- Christer Edwards -- marketing-list mailing list marketing-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing-list

I thought I'd throw out links to my two articles as well. Shane's post seems to be getting a lot of feedback, and I've dropped my links there, but the rest of the list might want to refer to them. The articles aren't focused on the myth-vs-truth aspect, but more geared toward how to install and test it. I find that the conversation gets going well when users are able to actually try it for themselves and offer feedback. The following outline GNOME Shell and Gnome Activity Journal / Zeitgeist. http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2009/11/02/install-gnome-shell-on-ubuntu-9-10-karmic-koala/ http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2010/01/19/preview-gnome-activity-journal-zeitgeist-on-ubuntu-9-10/ -- Christer Edwards .: http://ubuntu-tutorials.com :. -- marketing-list mailing list marketing-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/marketing-list

I recently presented to my local LUG regarding GNOME Shell and got some pretty mixed reviews. They gave a lot of feedback regarding usability and quirks (granted I'm using the 2.28 snapshot). I would be very interested in getting back to my team with new information in order to address some of their concerns. If anyone on the list can suggest additional resources regarding "more than just Shell" that I can demo and publicize I'd be happy to. Otherwise, Shell is the only thing I've been able to actually build and tinker with / demo. Re: GNOME Booth at UTOSC
This thread was suggested to me today, so I thought I might pipe in... I live in Utah and I know Clint Savage (UTOSC Organizer). I've also been a GNOME user for.. 4-5 years now. I haven't done any direct-GNOME contribution (although I'd like to), but I've been very involved with Ubuntu contribution as well as Arch Linux. If I'm able to help with a GNOME booth at this years conference just let me know what I can do. Christer - Anyone up for setting up a GNOME booth at UTOSC? Hi Stormy, As Gareth mentioned, my name is Clint Savage, organizer of the Utah Open Source Conference. I had the great opportunity to hear your keynote the Scale 2008 conference, and would like to invite you to keynote at our 2009 conference. The theme of our conference is Affordability, Scalability and Reliability. The presentation you offered at SCALE 2008 had a strong impression on me and it reaffirmed my belief in open source and why I devote time and money to the cause through the Utah Open Source Foundation and Conference, Fedora, OLPC and other projects. The Utah Open Source Conference is growing rapidly, 2009 is our 3rd year and we're expecting 600+ folks who are interested in free and open source software. A similar presentation to the one offered at SCALE would really work to galvanize the local user groups and technologists in this area. The dates for our conference are October 8-10, 2009 and we'll be updating our website to reflect more detail about our conference. If you wish to view the presentations that were given in 2008, please feel free to visit http://2008.utosc.com. In addition, I'd like to also extend an invitation to the GNOME folks to have a presence at one of our dot-org booths. We're in a new venue this year, and plan to intermix the dot-org booths with the commercial offerings. Either way, I sure hope you can attend the Utah Open Source Conference and would love to have you help us spread open source throughout the Intermountain West. Thank you for your time and consideration.
