Gardline Geosurvey Limited is a successful marine survey contractor, operating 
a fleet of dedicated geophysical survey vessels, conducting major integrated 
offshore projects on a worldwide basis.  Gardline's Marine Wildlife Department 
(MWD) is looking for an Assistant Marine Acoustic Scientist (Summer Placement).

The MWD offers consultancy, Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs), Passive Acoustic 
Monitoring Systems (PAMS) and Operators and Marine Acoustic Scientists, working 
in the Oil and Gas, renewable energy and offshore construction industries on a 
worldwide basis.

We are seeking a motivated undergraduate student for a summer placement in the 
Marine Acoustic Team. The successful candidate will assist in the development 
and integration of underwater acoustic algorithms used for noise monitoring 
surveys, apply the algorithms to current and ongoing projects and contribute in 
undertaking acoustic equipment testing.

The ideal candidate should be an involved in engineering, acoustics, computer 
science, physics or other relevant discipline and be able to demonstrate 
knowledge in subjects relevant to underwater acoustic, wave propagation and 
digital signal processing.

Knowledge and experience using Matlab or equivalent is extremely desirable and 
familiarity with Java programming would be advantageous. You will be able to 
undertake specific tasks using numerical methods, have excellent attention to 
detail and be able to work as part of a team as well as unsupervised.

As a Marine Wildlife Report Writer you will be responsible for the analysis, 
interpretation and presentation of marine wildlife data in reports to our

Gardline group of companies.
The successful candidate should be of environmental degree calibre, and 
demonstrate a sound knowledge of the marine environment with both a scientific 
and commercial awareness. You will possess excellent communication and 
interpersonal skills in order to gain and process complex information, present 
that information clearly and concisely and think logically, critically and 
decisively.  Excellent scientific writing skills and attention to detail are 
essential.
The ideal candidate must be confident using Microsoft Office applications, 
particularly Excel and Word. It would also be beneficial if you have experience 
of using and understanding Adobe Acrobat, ArcGIS and statistical software 
packages.
There will also be the opportunity to participate in occasional field surveys, 
up to 60 days offshore per annum.

providing technical support to offshore equipment operators.

This role will be based from our Great Yarmouth head offices and will require 
some travel.

Candidates will possess a formal engineering qualification (BTEC or equivalent) 
and be able to demonstrate computer competence. Preferably candidates will have 
experience of acoustic equipment and working on vessels, as well as possessing 
a forklift and drivers license. An understanding of marine acoustics, and 
marine mammal vocalisations will be an advantage

Gardline Environmental Ltd.s' Marine Wildlife Department provides a field 
taught training course for new and current Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs), in 
preparation for the working environment of offshore industries, whilst giving 
the opportunity to expand marine mammal identification skills. The Pro-MMO 
course trains applicants to become fully qualified, JNCC approved, professional 
MMOs who gain exceptional field experience during their training.
The next available dates for this field-based course will be 17th - 19th April 
2012.
Prices will vary upon number of applicants, however, the price of the course 
will include all teaching materials, experienced staff, accommodation (during 
the course) and support afterwards. The course will take place on a vessel 
passing through the Bay of Biscay.

To support the Marine Wildlife Departments continuing growth strategy, we are 
seeking to appoint a Marine Acoustic Scientist to work within the department's 
newest team and play a major role in the company's future success.

Reporting to the current Marine Wildlife Business Manager, you will be expected 
to undertake and develop the application of marine acoustic monitoring and 
recording systems, the compilation and preparation of reports and the 
processing of acoustic data and possess a sound knowledge of the marine 
environment in general.

Ideally you will be of degree calibre or higher, have some managerial 
experience, and demonstrate the ability to lead and develop projects from 
implementation to completion and illustrate sound commercial awareness.  You 
will need to be a confident individual with a can do attitude and enjoy being 
challenged. Previous relevant marine oil and gas or renewable energy industry 
experience is advantageous.

MARINE WILDLIFE FIELD TEAM COORDINATOR

Reporting to the Marine Wildlife Business Manager, you will be responsible for 
the line-management of field personnel involved in marine mammal and bird 
surveys and mitigation work.  You will also be responsible for co-ordinating 
the supply of field personnel for projects undertaking marine mammal and 
seabird survey and mitigation work on Gardline Marine Sciences Ltd and 
third-party vessels and to act as contact point for all operations concerning 
Marine Wildlife Department personnel requirements.  You will work closely with 
the Marine Wildlife Department Manager and Marine Wildlife Department Project 
Team Manager on all offshore issues and with the Marine Wildlife Department 
Technician on all equipment issues within the department and with the 
applicable personnel within Gardline Environmental Ltd and Gardline Marine 
Sciences Ltd.
Ideally you will be of degree calibre or equivalent, and demonstrate a sound 
knowledge of the marine mammals, seabirds and the marine environment with both 
a scientific and commercial awareness. You will possess previous managerial 
skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to gain and 
process complex information, present that information clearly and concisely and 
think logically, critically and decisively.

closely with project managers, wildlife observers and marine scientists to 
ensure the production and delivery to tight time deadlines of a quality, 
accurate report to agreed client specifications.

Reports are produced in Microsoft Word and PDF formats and also as a hard copy. 
 The ideal candidate must be confident using Microsoft Office applications, 
particularly Excel. It would also be beneficial if you have experience of using 
and understanding Adobe Acrobat, Surfer, ArcGIS and Matlab.

assistance to the project managers, lead scientists and report writer with the 
production of marine wildlife reports.



You will be responsible for the appropriate collection and processing of data 
both at sea and in the office. This role will require you to work in the office 
(based in Great Yarmouth), but we have an expectation that you will spend 
approximately 120 days at sea, at locations worldwide, dependent on project 
requirements, during a 12-month period.



Applicants will ideally be of degree calibre or equivalent in a relevant 
discipline and possess an understanding of marine mammals and seabirds, their 
biology and identification.  Familiarity with the use of Passive Acoustic 
Monitoring System (PAMS) or previous marine survey experience would certainly 
be advantageous.

 contractor, operating a fleet of inshore boats, conducting major
 integrated offshore projects on a worldwide basis and inshore projects

 growth there are immediate vacancies for the following positions:
 
 PAMS OPERATIONAL TECHNICIAN
 
 As a PAMS Operational Technician you will be responsible for the
 maintenance, despatch and receipt of all Marine Wildlife Departmental
 equipment, both nationally and internationally, in accordance with
 appropriate legislation. Assist with the compilation and preparation
 of PAMS reports and the processing of acoustic data. 
 
 Applicants will ideally be of degree calibre or equivalent in a
 relevant discipline and possess an understanding of Marine Mammals,
 their biology and identification. Familiarity with the use of PAMS or
 previous marine survey experience would be advantageous.
 
 MMO / PAMS OPERATIVE
 
 As an MMO / PAMS Operative you will be required to undertake marine
 mammal observation, passive acoustic monitoring and environmental
 survey activities in the field and provide general assistance in the
 production of marine wildlife reports and the processing of data.
 
 Applicants will ideally be of degree calibre or equivalent in a
 relevant discipline and possess an understanding of Marine Mammals,
 their biology and identification. Familiarity with the use of PAMS or
 previous marine survey experience would be advantageous.
 
 Both positions require the individual to spend in the region of 60 -
 120 days at sea, dependent on project requirements, with the remaining
 time being office based (Great Yarmouth). As well as a competitive
