Certainly the racist attitudes and events described are essential evidence.
But slapping on the "whiteness" label is just bowing to the latest fad.
Were the reactionary post-WWI vets groups built around whiteness? And were
the progressive ones built around challenges to whiteness (which is
different from challenges to racism)?

Bill, who is a Marxmail subscriber, has probably passed on since Mark 
Lause sent this note to North Star editors:


I don't know how many of you knew or remember Bill Pelz in Chicago, but 
he was another Trotskyist and historian who came out of the SDS days. 
One of my oldest and dearest comrades, he had a life-threatening bout 
with cancer almost twenty years ago.  The experts all told him he had 
less than a year.  He beat it, though he came out of it less a kidney. 
He was a former member of the IS, the Red Rose Collective, Solidarity, 
the Socialist Party, and the DSA--all in Chicago, where he was very well 
known.


Thursday night, Bill had a massive heart attack.  He's been unconscious 
ever since, and they're removing the life support machines this morning.


Just passing this on as news.

We may want to post something on him later.
