Phillip, in your opinion would there be any change in politics in Ireland
should SF ever form a gov't? Is there that much difference left on any of
major issues?

My take on this is: Yes and No! Based on their rhetoric (and their
nationalist politics, which are critical of neoliberalism), they would
probably take a harder line on the Troika and the debt than the current
bunch of shysters, but I suspect they would eventually compromise as
they did in the North. How quickly this would happen and how easily
would depend on the strength of the old neoliberal parties and of the
independents and, particularly, the radical left.

This year I'm hoping to spend more time on my Irish blog; it's been
somewhat neglected over the past year or so.

Anyway, this is the first of this year's new pieces I've written for it:
https://theirishrevolution.wordpress.com/2015/01/21/a-fianna-failfine-gael-coalition-a-socialist-republican-response/

It deals with the discussion about the two traditional rival parties of the
southern Irish bourgeoisie - Fine Gael and Fianna Fail - forming a grand
coalition, basically to keep Sinn Fein out of government in Dublin. SF did
extremely well in the May 2014 Euro elections - they now hold 3 of the 7
southern Irish seats - and the local council elections that were held the
same day (for instance, they are by far the biggest party in Dublin now and
smashed Labour).

I'm sure the southern bourgeoisie have the measure of the Adamsite Shinners
and understand they are no threat. But the politicians of Fine Gael and
Fianna Fail have no great desire to be sidelined in terms of the 'benefits'
of office - southern Irish politics being notoriously corrupt - by a bunch
of people they were used to harassing, imprisoning and generally repressing.
