Here's the problem ---2012 - 2014 were years at the HEART of the flawed
"recovery" from the Great Recession. The economy beginning in 2016 is
TOTALLY different from the economy in 2012-2014 ---
Unfortunately, for the thesis of the book (and review) to be true, we need
to revisit the stats of 2012-2014 for 2016-2018 --- It is certainly
possible that a very large percentage of the population are still "left
behind" by the "recovery" -- but recall 1998-1999 --- for a brief period at
the end of the dot.com boom (before the stock market tanked), working
people actually regained some of their real income that had been lost and
then stagnant since the 1970s It is possible (it's too early to tell)
that we are in a similar (short run) period where the benefits of economic
growth are actually "trickling down" --- that doesn't mean inequality isn't
increasing (it did during the late 1990s) but the actual standard of living
of lower income working Americans may actually be improving during the last
two years as the unemployment rate gets low enough to put some upward
pressure on wages.
