The unique aspect of Obama's candidacy is that, like MLKing, he is risking his life , 'cause the ghost of jim crow ain't entirely dead yet. Or maybe it is ? Obama is testing the American soul. The media isn't saying that, but most Black people feel it. Obama like King is using a non-violent tactic.
King said judge by the content of character, not color of skin. Today, anti-affirmative action people claim we should be "colorblind" , that we don't need affirmative action. Obama says, ok , judge me colorblindly, by the content of my character, not the color of my skin. I am not raising race. His character includes the courage to risk his life.
