Can a extendded cab ........

can an extended cab be easily converted to a 4 door cab?

can a extended cab comfortably carry a 3 man crew? - doesnt look likely

do any truck manufacturers produce a stock 4 door cab?

I wonder how many of these rigs are destined for NIFC or Boise Mobile
Equipment? which might be only 30 miles away

Re: Pretty good report on siren use by ambulances

2017-06-21 Thread Peter Szerlagi
the report did not get into the nitty gritty like I hoped it would

for example - how many calls really need a hot response and really
save anyone? is rapid dispatch used? does the fd and pd respond to all
EMS calls (they really forgot to mention this re Oklahoma where amb
response time goals have been scaled way back)

but this is interesting

--

Emergency Medical Dispatch and L S Response

In 1983, Dr. Jeff Clawson described an emergency medical dispatcher
course that included the concept of non-L response based upon a
structured call-taking process including key questions, pre-arrival
instructions, and dispatch priorities. At that time, the following
calculation was suggested to determine the mode of responses:“

1. Red light and siren vs. routine

a. Ask yourself the following question of each problem:

1. Will time make a difference in final outcome?

2. How much time leeway do you have?

3. How much time can you save going red-light-and-siren?

4. When the victim gets to the hospital will the time you saved be
significant to the time spent awaiting care (i.e. waiting turn,
X-rays, lab tests, etc.)?

2. True time priority items (one- to five-minute response required):

a. Cardiac or respiratory arrest

b. Airway problems

c. Unconsciousness

d. Severe Trauma/ hypovolemic Shock

e. True obstetrical emergencies”

3. Other emergent medical problems should receive responses of less
than 10 minutes with all responses (in urban/ suburban areas) within
15 minutes.

”(Clawson 1983)

Pretty good report on siren use by ambulances

2017-06-21 Thread Peter Szerlagi
https://www.ems1.com/ems-products/ambulance-lights/articles/277549048-Report-addresses-risks-benefits-of-EMS-lights-and-sirens/

I just started reading this - lots of info about sirens and flashing
lights and vehicle paint jobs etc

I hope they mention the accuracy or inaccuracy of EMD

75% of EMS responses use lights and sirens - saves approx 1 to 3
minutes (on a average 8 minute response time I presume)

sirens might not be heard even from 100 feet away

Massachusetts requires a full stop at red lights and stop signs for
emergency vehicles

This is why Lassie doesnt have an OptiCom

2017-06-21 Thread Peter Szerlagi
Traffic Signal Preemption Devices

Traffic signal preemption devices seek to reduce L
collisions at intersectionsand decrease response times by sensing the
responding emergency vehicle andcontrolling traffic signals to allow
clear passage for the emergency vehicle. While manycities use these
systems, the literature has limited description of their
effectiveness. A NHTSA publication provides a case series with
descriptions of traffic signalpreemption for emergency vehicles in
Fairfax County, VA, Plano, TX, and St. Paul, MN.These jurisdictions
report various advantages that include reduced response times, need for
fewer fire stations to maintain response standards, and decreased
intersectioncrashes. The document provides advice for communities that
are considering thepurchase of traffic preemption devices. (NHTSA
2006)

did someone say fewer fire stations? OMG!

The endless racket is much better - not

Does Boston have any OptiComs? Any at all?

Preparedness level Chart - Boise

2017-06-21 Thread Peter Szerlagi
https://www.idahofireinfo.blm.gov/southwest/nfdrs/PreparednessLevelChart07.pdf

ERC = energy release component IIRC

you apparently work from top to bottom on the chart and you determine
what the preparedness level is

IIRC the preparedness level will give you the staffing level and the
dispatch level -so at Level 5 practically everyone is on duty and the
dispatch levels will be the highest (the highest number of resources
will be dispatched to each call) - (maybe the dispatch levels range
from 1 to 6 engines on the initial dispatch)
