[MCN-L] Join us! The next NE SIG meeting to be held in Princeton

2013-06-09 Thread Janet M. Strohl-Morgan
Hi Everyone,

I am just starting as the new Northeast SIG chair for MCN, following Ari
Davidow's successful term as SIG chair. Thank you Ari!

I am calling on all MCN members in the Northeast US (for SIG purposes, Maine,
New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New
Jersey, and Pennsylvania) to participate in a day in Princeton. This is a
chance to join your regional peers for discussions and networking.

We are in the planning stages and would love to have your feedback and help.

We will have time for four sessions on any topic of interest in any format -
from a QA on digital asset management to a speaker on rights and reproductions
to a panel on social media to [you fill in the blank].

If you are interested in participating, please respond to me at jstrohl at
princeton.edumailto:jstrohl at princeton.edu and let me know the following:

- Indicate which dates work best for you in order of preference by
Friday, June 14:

o Thursday, July 25

o Friday, July 26

o Thursday, August 1

o Friday, August 2

- Indicate your program ideas and/or preferences on topics

- Indicate if you are willing to participate and/or help

I am looking forward to taking on the challenge as NE SIG chair and working
with this incredible community.

Thank you all!

Sincerely,

Janet

[MCN-L] Tour Scheduling

2010-01-15 Thread Janet M Strohl-Morgan
Dear All,

I know that this question was discussed a few years ago (see below), however,
we are wondering if anyone has any new information in regards to online tour
scheduling systems? We are looking to

-Schedule multiple tours on the same day

-Generate confirming letters

-Produce statistics

-Shared calendar

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Janet

Melissa,

We use ABC Event Manager for tours and special events. It is inexpensive, has
unlimited users, and a backdoor to Microsoft Access so you can create as many
custom reports that you want without the worry about the upgrades writing over
your customizations. We do not charge for tours, but I know that the program
can produce invoices. We use it for scheduling, contact management, tour
confirmations (hard copy or email) and resource management. We are in the
process of reviewing our needs and looking at other software as well. We have
looked at Artifax, Vista, and EBMS. There are advantages and disadvantages of
each one. Please contact me if you wish to compare notes.

Greetings,

What do you use to schedule, confirm, track payments and create receipts for
school tours? Currently, we use Vista which is way more than we need. Someone
please tell me that there is something simpler and cheaper out there. We just
updated the program and lost a custom report.

We serve approximately 25,000 students a year and need a program to:

--Schedule multiple tours and multiple locations on the same day

--Generate confirming letters and invoices

--Track payments

--Generate receipts

--Ability to have multiple users

Thank you in advance for any suggestions (or commiserations) you may have.

[MCN-L] Membership and Donor Database Question

The Royal Ontario Museum does use Raiser's Edge for our Membership and
Fundraising needs - but we're on the larger side as museums go.

From what I've heard, Tessitura is worth looking at for fundraising
needs,
but I'm not sure if it's oriented towards Memberships (it's more
performing arts based, but there are some museums using it).

Cheers, Deirdre.

Hi Janet,
we use Donor2, which runs as a web service. We bought it after
conducting an RFP that ended up ruling out Raiser's Edge because of
complexity and (in-house) support issues. We have a very small (2
people) Development department, and an IT department that needs another
major application to support like a hole in the head. In addition to
fund raising and development, we use it for mail list management. After
2 years of use, it has proven almost entirely trouble-free. I also like
those guys because just before Katrina hit they invited me to zip up the
database and ftp it to their server.

Re: Ticketing Software Question

2006-04-04 Thread Janet M Strohl-Morgan
Dear Amber,

We are in the process of implementing Retail Pro for our museum shop.
It has advanced inventory control; point of sale; and merchandising
capabilities. It also has extensive reporting. We had to customize the
system for ticketing. I do not believe it handles tour reservations -
but you may be able to customize it for that too.

We purchased the system from IMS (International Micro Systems Inc.,
www.ims-pro.com). The company also sells software entitled STADIS that
integrates ticketing, concessions, and merchandise.

So far, it seems to be powerful enough for our operations. I have not
compared it to VISTA - but it can collect customer data and zip codes
that is useful in targeted mailings. I will be able to let you know if
it works as we hope it to work in a few months when we are fully
operational with the system.

Sincerely,

Janet

I've been told Retail Pro has been used at ski resorts for selling lift
tickets and it is a very powerful POS. Retail Pro doesn't have the
ability to collect marketing information that VISTA does and obviously
the POS doesn't do scheduling. We find that we need the ability to
modify scheduled groups because the number of individuals often changes
 from the initial reservation.

We currently use VISTA for our ticketing and tour reservations and a

a system that handles both retail sales and ticketing? Or does anyone
use VISTA back office for tour reservations and a different system for
retail and ticketing? I'd really appreciate any advice or information
