Re: [MCN-L] Posts

2020-11-21 Thread Matthew Tarr
Thanks Paul,
I see these as well.

I'm hoping it will be corrected after I run the monthly update on the listserve
software environment.
Looks like an overzealous Newsletter filter (to limit spam) ?

Odd that your message got thru.

Hello,

Am receiving many posts from the list at the moment, containing the line:

Probably something that the list admin is aware of, dropping a line
just in case!

Have a good weekend,

[MCN-L] Recent MCN-L downtime and the future

2019-08-06 Thread Matthew Tarr
Hello MCN-Listers,

As many of you are no doubt aware, MCN-L was down for weeks, we thought we got
it back up and running recently, but mail was still not going out. It is now
functioning and you likely got a whole lot of old messages.

Also, we put in place some better monitoring. However, don't hesitate to alert
us if you think something has stopped working.

In related news: We are looking to include the list serve capability as part of
our upcoming digital re-platforming. Our hope is to create a unified online
venue for all MCN-related activities. website, blog, membership, conference,
messaging, etc... For MCN-L that means migrating to something that is more
integrated with the web (not just a web archive), specifically WordPress. To
that end we are interested in hearing from folks who have either experience
working with MailMan (the current tech stack serving MCN-L) or strong opinions
and a willingness to contribute to the understanding of the future of MCN-L.

If that’s you, hit up myself or Eric and let’s talk.

[MCN-L] Digital signage rough cost estimate

2019-04-16 Thread Matthew Tarr
Hey Musetech brain trust…

I’m outlining a rough proposal that would include among many other things some
digital signage.
Looking for someone to tell me rough estimates for “total cost of ownership” …

I’m guessing the devices themselves are the easiest part, installation is what
I’m looking for help with.

Anyone?

[MCN-L] Job Posting: Digital educator at AMNH in NYC

2018-05-23 Thread Matthew Tarr

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the
premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country. The
American Museum of Natural History is seeking a part-time Youth Initiatives
Digital Educator to co-teach science courses for New York City youth in on-site
museum programs. Courses are for middle school and high school aged children,
and can take many different formats, including a 12-hour Friday afternoon
course, a 24-hour after-school research course that meets twice a week and is
co-taught with a scientist, a 30-hour middle school institute that runs in the
summer and over vacation breaks, and numerous different courses that run on
weekends.

The Digital Educator will also be responsible for reviewing curriculum in
advance of classes, maintaining and growing our digital resources (e.g.,
computers, mobile devices, 3D printers, AR/VR devices), as well as recommending
emerging technology with educational potential. This also includes working
collaboratively with Youth Initiatives staff to troubleshoot issues reported by
faculty and students.

The Digital Educator will also collaborate with and coach the faculty in the
use of instructional technologies to promote teaching and learning.

Candidates will be asked to learn how to work with 3D printing, GIS, and
possibly Skyrim and Sculptris. The candidate must be able to learn and co-teach
courses in a manner that aligns with the Museum's student-centered pedagogical
approach that strives to engage and excite youth through museum-based,
hands-on, interactive learning. Candidates must be available to work select
Saturdays and Sundays, and when working on weekdays, be available to teach
until 6:30pm.

The Educator will report directly to and will be supervised by the Senior
Manager of Curriculum and Teaching.

[MCN-L] VR headsets you don't need to strap on

2016-10-20 Thread Matthew Tarr
Hey Ed and Keir,
Have you look into Google’s DayDream?

I am a big fan of Gear VR (but less a fan of Samsung), and I think that this
sort of Mobile VR should come from higher up the food chain (Google and Apple)

depending on the experience you are creating… I love Cardboard as well. and
there are literally hundreds of robust “cardboard” viewers..

aside from the actual paper version, I have direct experience with Wearailty
(very interesting for using fresnel lenses for wider fov )

and the

Viewmaster (which I purchased for my 5 year old, very sturdy! and no strap

Re: [MCN-L] map software

2016-09-28 Thread Matthew Tarr
hey list,

Matt and Doug in particular...

Doug, I think we spoke to you guys (briefly) before embarking on our “digital
totem” which also prominently features a “zoomable" map interface into images
and media...

http://www.wsj.com/articles/a-digital-portal-into-distant-cultures-1469661481
a large, 4k, touch enabled display, mated to a windows PC running a locked down
Chrome kiosk.
It is all built using html/css/js

I’ve reached out to the dev to get his thoughts on the codebase, but ether way
I’d be happy to chat about what we learned (or are still learning)

In general we am working on how the institution wants to more fully embrace
open source, so we should all keep in touch.

p.s. how does one switch to non-digest mode? is it rude to respond to a digest
email with a specific point?
