Title: Please help database administrators
Dear
Molly,
University
Business magazine recently ran an essay on the traits of a good campus
CIO. The subhead began "Technical expertise is no longer enough..."
If you take
the level of responsibility down a few notches, I think these traits apply
to the lead technical staff member in any large organization or
department. The traits the author cited are:
Functional business orientation and communication
skills.
Political savvy.
Ability to achieve
balance.
Good project planning and
control, and ability to influence.
Ability to identify, motivate,
and develop talent.
A commitment to continuing
education.
Vision.

administrators
Friends,The
database administrator's proposal was accepted by AAM and will be a double
session in May.
We are asking for your thoughts of
what should be included.Do you keep performance records and
statistics? To what end, for whom, and how?Can you share examples of
statistics and performance data that are helpful to keep? The session
promises to be "A discussion of the responsibilities, challenges, training and
recruitment of collection database administrators will demystify this
often-misunderstood professional. The visionary database administrator
opens new avenues of discovery as she/he stalks heretofore-unidentified data
access points, traverses the jungles of muddled data conversion legacies, and
captures the heart and imagination of computer phobic museum staff. The
visionary database administrator defends data integrity, pursues new
technologies, aggressively finds creative solutions to staff challenges, and
seeks ways to make the database relevant to other
users."Have we missed anything that you would want to come away with from such a
session?Thanks
in advance for your help
