[MCN-L] Museum training programs study

2018-11-05 Thread Steward, Jeff s.
Hello members of the MCN listserv,

We are in the process of evaluating the museum training program here at Harvard
Art Museums. We have a long history of training future museum professionals.
Historically we've focused on training future scholars/curators, conservators,
and museum directors mainly through multiyear fellowships and post-docs. During
the past few years it's grown to include other roles but only marginally. We're
trying to figure out the future of our program and how expansive (or not) it
should be. I'm most interested in how we train future museum technologists so
I'm hoping to talk to those at institutions with training programs that include
a focus on digital technology.

As a reference point we have a technology fellowship (generically called
Technology Fellow) as part of our training program. We've had it for six years.
A fellow is with us full time for 1-2 years. They work specifically on the
design, development, and implementation of projects in our Lightbox
Gallery in
close collaboration with staff in the Division of Academic and Public Programs.

Do you have a training program that weaves in technology? If so I'd like to
talk with you.

Thanks,

Jeff Steward

2017-08-01 Thread Steward, Jeff s.

Hi all,

IIIF implementers at Harvard are eager to reach out to local New England
cultural institutions who are interested in IIIF, and we're planning a
IIIF-focused meetup this September at Harvard. Our idea is to have an
opportunity for us to connect with IIIFers at regional institutions, to share
interests, and to look for areas of potential collaboration. We're also
interested in gauging interest in a broader New England IIIF outreach event
next spring.

The meetup will be Friday, Sept .29 from 9AM-1:00PM at Harvard.

We are thinking of a ½ day meetup with an agenda of:

1. Welcome and introductions
2. Overview of the state of the IIIF universe (We'll present a recent
general IIIF presentation)
3. Reports of IIIF activity or interest from each attending institution
4. Determine areas of mutual interest
5. Discuss proposed larger New England IIIF event the week of March 12,
2018.
6. If time permits, break up into a mini-unconference on specific areas of
mutual interest.

To help with logistics, please RSVP if this is something you would plan to
attend.
