[MCN-L] We need your help - User-generated content and user participation in GLAMS
User-created content is an integral part of the online experience. From slideshows on Flickr to articles on Wikipedia, from discussions on Twitter to cat videos on YouTube, millions of users produce and disseminate new content every day. Very often this micro-production takes place outside of institutions but some successful pioneers have shown that user-created content can become a valuable resource for galleries, libraries, archives and museums. We are interested in finding out how important user-created content is for our sector and we are sure that you are too. What we would like to explore is how user-created content circulates in the culture heritage sector. Who uses it and how? Who doesn't use it and why not? What can we learn from each other and what kind of services could the Europeana Network offer to turn user-created content into true assets for its stakeholders? The Europeana Network Task Force on User-Generated Content would like to find out, but we can only do so with your help! If you are curious to know how important user-created content is for the GLAM community then please complete our survey until the 28th of May. It only takes 8 minutes and we will share the results with you this autumn on the LinkedIn page of the Europeana Network, the Europeana Pro Blog and during the annual general meeting of the Europeana Network: http://goo.gl/8CEig For further information about our task force and its mission please visit http://pro.europeana.eu/network/task-forces/overview The members of the Europeana Network Task Force on User-Generated Content, Ad Poll? [MCN-L] Facebook - Groups vs. Pages

We have a Facebook page and a bunch of 'fans' and are trying to figure out the best way to take advantage of this group. We recently tried to invite our fans to an event, but it was sent out as a page update, and we received very few responses. I am under the impression that if we are are a group, rather than a page we can communicate more actively with those interested in us. If you'd like to participate, please come by. Request for help - correlation between website visits and realvisitors.
Apologies for cross-posting... This is a request for help to museum website managers. Please respond off-list to sha...@netvision.net.il I am researching the impact on new media in the museum and am interested in the quantitative correlation between website visits and real visitors. I would be grateful if you would share with me your statistics for the year 2004 on annual number of Real Visitors to your museum and the annual number of Web Visits of the same year. Please indicated whether you measure your web visits by Visits, Hits, or Page Views. The Visits report reveals the total number of times that people have visited your web site during the selected report period. The Hits report shows the number of requests for files–or hits–logged during the selected report period. A hit is a request to your web server for a file such as a web page, image, CGI, header request, etc. The Page Views report shows the total number of web site pages that have been viewed during the selected report period. [MCN-L] Security Lapse Exposes Personal Facebook Photos
Any chance these constant headlines about Facebook privacy problems are trying to ...tell us something? Yes ... that the Internet, social networks, instant messaging systems and email clients tend to mess things up, let in spam, and Trojan horses, grant access to files that are not are not rightfully yours while silo-ing off others for no appropriate reason ... I would recommend shunning anything that has a modem or router attached to it or, just to be sure, steer clear away from anything that needs electricity to turn itself on ...
