Thank you to all that replied.

What I did was delete all PXE Boot wims from MDT and WDS. I then updated the
deployment share, and then added the new wims from MDT to WDS. This resolved
the issue. I am not sure why it did not resolve it the first time .. but at
this point it is a moot point.

Thanks again to all.

\\xxxxxxx\mdt<file:///\\xxxxxxx\mdt> *is* the DeployRoot Setting in the
litetouchPE_xxx.wim file on your local MDT server.

GO ahead and update your Boot images on the WDS Server to ensure you are using
the correct one.

However, I personally recommend using %WDSServer% if you have that defined.

“xxxxxxxxxx” denotes where I found a server name that is NOT the local MDT
server. It appears it is connecting to a remote server. I have checked the
bootstrap.ini file and it has the correct server name in there. I have also
updated the deployment.

If this is the problem, … actually I am certain this is the problem because I
started a VM on a computer that is on site, PXE booted to MDT, then I checked
the remote site server “Sessions” in computer manager and found the VM had
connected to that server to run MDT.

I just do not know where else to look to remove the reference to the remote
server. What am I missing?

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks in advance

Hey! There's a hotfix for MDT and SCCM that lead to extremely slow imaging
times. This was big news about 18 months ago or so, when 8 hour imaging became
the norm until the hotfix came out.

You should find the hotfix here.

Another thing to try is allowing Anonymous logon as shown in this example

WDS shouldn’t have any impact.

Typically these sorts of problems are caused by a speed/duplex mismatch between
the server and the switch, client and the switch, or both. It can also be
caused by overly-aggressive antivirus software (scanning all files accessed
remotey).

Thanks,
-Michael

Subject: [MDT-OSD] EXTREMELY slow running MDT

Hi Everyone,

I have been tasked to completely rebuild MDT. The first phase is coming up with
a “thin” image, creating software distribution packages, and replicating them
to 6 different servers for testing which include one in Asia and one in Europe.

The problem I am facing is one of the MDT servers in North America is running
EXTREMELY slow. But only for MDT. It is slow from the PXE boot, all the way
thru to completion. The last image took over 7 hours to complete. All the other
servers only take about 2 ½ hours. All other file transfers and general access
of the server seem completely normal.

The server is also a file and print server and it runs DHCP. But so are all the
other servers.

Are there any settings that can effect how MDT performs? Can WDS effect the
performance?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Dave Landry
