My 95 with the 2.3 has 230K on it and it runs absolutely perfect. No smoke, rattles or major leaks and it was always owned by a friend of mine who has NO clue about anything mechanical...It had the infamous sticky throttle body shaft at one time(all Frods do if you leave them sit long around here) and he let it sit on the rev limiter while he went in the house to get someone to help.DUH! I've got a 95 Mazda B2300 (2.3L Ranger) with 5 speed and it can barely do 75 up hills. I shift into 4th to maintain speed on any respectable hill. The odometer quit at 190k about two years ago, but before that I got about 19-23 highway MPG depending on how I drove it. In town is 17-20. I once got 12mpg when I was towing a trailer (empty!!!) at 75mph. The reason I got 12 is that the trailer was so heavy I couldn't maintain speed in 5th AT ALL. So had to use 4th Mileage was better with it loaded (14' utility trailer with books furniture) since I went 70. If you need a truck to abuse though... I HIGHLY recommend them. They are also dirt cheap. The A/C is nothing short of fantastic. Re: [MBZ] Fords fuel mileage
My 02 F150 Supercrew 4X4 with the 5.4 did a little better than 17 mpg(adjusted to US gallons as I'm in Canada) on the last trip out to the lake. That was over a distance of about 225 miles - pretty well all highway. The interesting thing is that is about as good as it has ever done and I was really loaded. I had a stack of plywood, OSB, and dimensional lumber in the box piled almost to the top of the bed sides. I did keep my speed down to about 65 mph. I think that running it at 75 mph makes quite a difference. I guess one should expect that given the frontal area on a truck that size. They are not exactly aerodynamic notwithstanding the improvements of recent years. It is certainly much quieter than my old 68 Chevy C10. I did a little study on mileage at various speeds over the last month, and found that by reducing my highway speed from 70 mph to 55 mph gained me about 2 mpg per tank. I keep detailed mileage records, so I'm convinced that this was the result of the slower speed. I may get this wrong as I have never been there, but my wife was in DC a few years back on business and got on some sort of tour bus thing that went around to various sites. My recollection is that one could get on and off this wherever and whenever and then catch a later one when it came by on the basis of one ticket that was good for the whole day. She went to places like Arlington National Cemetary and quite enjoyed her short visit. If I were to go there, I certainly wouldn't miss the Smithstonian. I understand one could spend days in there and not see it all. Another thing that I would like to see, having seen a documentary on its construction, would be the cathedral. [MBZ] Sometimes you win one
A few weeks ago I managed to break the drainplug in the housing on my wife's motorcycle. Then I managed to break the inner housing getting everything apart. The inner housing was available, the outer was not. So last weekend I tried to drill the offending bolt out. Dammed if I didn't drill it off center. Bought some easyouts but she wouldn't budge. I plugged the hole and oiled it as best I could and left it for a few days. Still no-go. Today I cautiously drilled the next size up, I was worried it was too big and I'd catch the threads. Then tried with the next size up easy out. Well heck out came that bolt nice as you please. I was seriously worried I was going to break the smaller easyout. I'd tried heat too... I'd thought maybe I'd somehow crossthreaded but theres no sign of it, I have no idea why it broke. I'll chase the threads with a tap and try the bolt a few times before I button it all back up. Anyway I thought I'd trumpet my success. Now I need to figure out how to make 2 broken side panels into 1 good one. Yay epoxy. This needs to be ridgid though so no Shoe-Goo. -Curt - Yahoo! oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Ahh yes the evil fill plug, a word of warning those plugs can be tight. Sometimes previous owners have used bad methods (like you are thinking) to get them out and made a mess of them. From memory I managed to get a standard Allen key in there.just but my memory can be faulty. I would suggest that even if you have to cut up a Allen key, don't use 'shortcuts' which can turn into 'longcuts'. Larry, your w123 has the older style, where instead of inserting a release tool, there's a hole on the side that you insert a small torx head or allen wrench. It's not like newer ones that have a hole on the front. On Wed, Aug 08, 2007 at 09:21:04PM -0400, LarryT wrote: My W123 ign switch defied removal. Glad to see you got the E-O to work! Everytime I've used one it broke off in the frozen fastener. Without fail. I have better luck using a punch/chisel and BFH to knock the fastener loose - if there's a little piece to hit. A couple $$'s for new fasteners is aways the easiest way to go. Hi Mitch, Perhaps you can use a short piece of 14mm hex stock? A piece about 1 long, pushed into the fill plug should leave enough to put a wrench on the other end. Will be more precise and easier to use that a bolt and nut -- This place carries it in 14mm http://www.spahrmetric.com/shop.php#metrichex Good luck - Larry T (67 MGB, 74 911, 78 240D, 91 300D) www.youroil.net for Oil Analysis and Weber Parts Test Results http://members.rennlist.com/oil PORSCHE POSTERS! youroil.net Weber Carb Info http://members.rennlist.com/webercarbs . - Original Message - From: Mitch Haley [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2007 7:50 PM Subject: [MBZ] 2.3-16V trans fluid Now that I've got the 16v up in the air, and a storm approaching, I can't find my W201 CD. Re: [MBZ] 2.3-16V trans fluid
What about those small bottles of ATF that come with their own little hose attached, perhaps put on a little bit more hose and then squeeze. That's what I use, you can't get the bottle fully emptied this way but it is better than a syringe. Anyway the missus just rang to inform me that the muffler has fallen off the 201, so I'll be getting under there as well. [MBZ] OT: 1992 Suburban AC
My BiL brought his burbinator by for an AC recharge. Unfortunately that's not what's wrong with it. Surfing for an hour or two got me nothing on how it's constructed. The compressor wouldn't cut in, though the low side pressure was plenty high and the switch on the accumulator was closed. I jumped the compressor on to see what happened. The pipe to the condensor gets hot, pipe from gets warm. By the time that small line gets to the firewall it's ice cold. Accumulator itself is warm, the suction hose at the compressor is coolish. Unfortunately my gauge set wouldn't go on the high-side fitting, so I don't have that pressure. No idea why the compressor won't run either. Anybody got a quick checklist or a place to look for the same? He's leaving tomorrow AM, so I probably won't have time to do anything but who knows... Oh, and the burbinator has rear AC too. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
