Well, Kaleb, I have an '94 E420 (with a 129 engine), not a 400E.

I am looking at replacing the power steering hoses, both the

take to get the hoses disconnected from the power steering box and out,
and it looked somewhat on the difficult side. It did seem that it
wouldn't be as hard as getting the power steering pump out, but with it
being cold as it has in the garage, I haven't gotten up the gumption to
tackle it.

But my observations may not apply to the car you are considering.

2010-03-11 Thread Jim Cathey

The ignition switch symptom is a GP light that behaves
just as if you'd restarted the car at that instant.
If it's acting weirder than that, it'd probably have
to be the relay itself.

The ignition switch is, naturally enough, hanging off
the back side of the ignition steering lock. (On the
front side is the keylock.)

Exactly. It's a E350 with a Mark VII grill and headlamps. In between is a lot of
space, so they put the generator in the nose. The coachwork is actually supposed
to be pretty good, hand laid glass with 1 insulation sandwich. I do wonder
about how well the engine cools with the radiator that far from the front of the
vehicle.

Find me an operational $5000 Vixen and I'll buy it.
A Vixen, a EMC Starfire, or a FWD GMC would be the ones I consider interesting.
All three are supposed to drive a lot better than the typical Class A.

I was wondering how hard it would be to swap a 7.3 PSD into a big block 1987
E350 chassis.

Someone can post the fats, but my memory is that the biodegradable
harnesses were 93-96. Herr Doktor always said the diesels were immune to
the biodegradable harness problems, but I believe they are just slower to
degrade. Evidence on list from the last couple of years indicates that
the Diesel harnesses are beginning to degrade, or the list is populated by
nervous nellies. I tend to think the former, though the latter may be
true in some cases.

It is the engine harness that goes first.

As for Larry's original post about the relay, IME, it is the relay, as
indicated by your troubleshooting post.

I am new to the mac thing, having
repaired my daughters flooded macbook and then fooling with
it a bit.  I tried the other evening to load up Netflix
on it, and it kept telling me it couldn't work because I had
an old OS (didn't) and old version of Firefox
(didn't).  Then I discovered I needed to load some MSFT
viewer as a plug-in, which I did about 10 times and it
wouldn't take.  Another hour or so digging with google
to try to find out why this damn thing wouldn't show a movie
(Netflix help was useless), I found an obscure procedure
wherein I needed to go create some new user profile and then
try it again, which worked, finally.  I am not sure who
is the bigger idiot in this exercise, Netflix or Apple (not
me) but it was a PITA.   I did not go back to
the original user profile to see if by doing the download in
the new user took in the original user (it was just
loading a plug-in to FF and I guess Safari, nothing very
exotic).  So 2 hours of screwing around with something
about mac's peculiarities finally got me to be able to see a
netflix movie at midnight by which time it was time to go to
 bed.

They are so easy  Windows is abysmal (OK, that is
true, but I can't see where mac is particularly better,
especially on some simple aspect like loading a plug-in in a
browser)  THough I will admit that plugging it into the
Samsung LCD TV with a DVI-HDMI cable took just a few
minutes of fooling with output resolutions to get a half
decent pic on the TV, which is what we wanted to watch a
 movie on.

They are only good for TTL and CMOS digital logic.

That noise could be due to a bad ground someplace... How is the

housing.

Other than flaky components, I'd guess a flaky connection or dirty
power...

What's the fluke say when you put it on the battery... Do dc+ac so
that you can look at the ripple...
Also, turn off the 4th digit in setup to get a bit faster response
time...

If you get any significant ac component, do a frequency measurement
and see if it goes up when engine rpm goes up and down when the engine
rpm goes down
(indicating a bad diode in the alternator... An excellent source of
dirty power)

is ok, but if you take your eyes off the road for a sec , it decides

The front mounts are clearly busted, as the rubber has polished the

I did not go back to
the original user profile to see if by doing the download in
the new user took in the original user (it was just
loading a plug-in to FF and I guess Safari, nothing very
exotic). So 2 hours of screwing around with something
about mac's peculiarities finally got me to be able to see a
netflix movie at midnight by which time it was time to go to
  bed.

They are so easy Windows is abysmal (OK, that is
true, but I can't see where mac is particularly better,
especially on some simple aspect like loading a plug-in in a
browser) THough I will admit that plugging it into the
Samsung LCD TV with a DVI-HDMI cable took just a few
minutes of fooling with output resolutions to get a half
decent pic on the TV, which is what we wanted to watch a
  movie on.

Someone took off bits from the engine in my SDL. I am looking for
the 3 metal tabs the are bolted to the intake manifold, and the

Some genius decided the engine was not supposed to have them, so they
took off the hardware to stabilize the injection lines. You might
get by with that for a while on the old heavy, short lines, but not
with the long, light lines of the OM603

If anyone (Kaleb?) has these around on a spare engine, I sure would
like to have them on my engine. Send me an email off-list.

[MBZ] Unknown Part

part of the linkage that rotates as the pedal is pushed causing the rollers
to move. One of the rollers has a flat spot.

It looks almost like a Thermo-tine (sp?) device. I looked at EPC and
the WSM without any luck. I will ask the list in he hopes they know what it
is.

BTW - I just ordered a GP Relay.
