[MBZ] vote today

2010-11-02 Thread Dieselhead

I would urge everyone to vote today.
I suggest you choose Federal candidates who have read and will comply
to the US constitution.
I suggest you choose state and local candidates who have read and
will comply to your state constitution.

When in doubt, vote against the incumbent.

The 617 in the '76 300D started great with M1 at -5, but would hardly crank
with dino oil without the engine heater.

Yes. I had one that did this. There is a shaft seal
on the inside that can leak down into the timing chain vault.
There is also a high-pressure front seal that can leak,

Philip, et al.
There is a rebuild kit available from Rusty for the 123 wagon pump. The
pump can lose its' seals and get engine oil in the reservoir. So maybe
it can leak the other way too?

Ramblings of an idiot.

My 2.3-16 had a leak in the fabric covered suction hose between the reservoir
and the pump. I didn't notice anything when I bought the car, even though the
seller told me he topped it off that morning before driving it 100 miles to our
meeting place. A couple of days later the reservoir was empty, I would have
thought a leak that big would be a lot more noticeable than it was.

Run Mobil1 and pencil glow plugs - forget the heater (unless it's leaking
coolant). I've been amazed what a difference that combination makes in the
cold (with properly adjusted valves).

One thing I've noticed, is that a Mercedes that's accurately described and
fairly priced tends to sell quickly. If you ever see one on the market for
months, or continually being re-listed, it's either overpriced or something is
wrong that has not been disclosed.
