Here's the revised version, apparently 'Hybrid' sounds so much better than 'diesel', and they decided that 120kph top speed didn't cut it. Performance on this one is similar to the original 300SD. I don't know what's up with the horsepower, a 1.6L TDI makes more than 58 ponies. (various versions rated 74 to 103hp) The second Volkswagen 1-litre car, named 'L1', released at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, has a curb weight of 381 kg (840 lb), coefficient of drag of 0.195, and fuel efficiency of 1.38 L/100 km (170 mpg-US) with CO2 emissions of 39 g/km. It uses one half of a 1.6-litre TDI engine in a hybrid installation. The 800 cm3, twin-cylinder, common-rail, turbodiesel is joined by a 10.4 kW (14 bhp) electric motor. The engine operates in two modes with the eco mode giving 5.2 kW (7 bhp) and sport mode 21.6 kW (29 bhp), the electric motor provides extra acceleration and can power the L1 on its own for short distances. Re: [MBZ] Diesel shi**ing bug.
Good practices will yield 1 to 1.5 tons per acre on a fairly sustainable basis. (1/3 removal; 2/3 left as soil cover) I am not a big fan of corn stover or corn as ethanol feedstocks. The big problem is the baling and transportation costs of corn stover. It is viable, and with this new process, the stover will yield 90 to 100 gal per ton of feedstock. Because of the bulk and resultant transportation cost, small localized plants make sense. 50 to 100 million GPY plants are nuts for cellulosic feedstocks. The concept of a 1.5 to 6 MM GPY Biodiesel plus 1.5 to 20 MM GPY ethanol PLUS solid fuel pelletizing on a biofuels campus for local use makes sense. The concept is local inputs, local outputs for local use and local ownership. Each site adapted for local feedstocks and consumption makes economic sense. Allan Streib wrote: Is there really enough waste cellulose to support the process? Growing plants to turn them into ethanol turns out to be a net energy loss I think. We use corn seed now. Re: [MBZ] ticketing (was: Re: New Laws in Calif to estabish [sic] HIGHER fines (BS ALERT))
I think another thing that has driven many into the courts, is when they started to link fines and a point system, directly with the insurance industry, and pretty much allowing them the freedom to charge what they want. (We have no fault insurance here, which means many of the good drivers pay far more than they should, to subsidize, less well off, and less capable drivers' right to drive). I feel many would pay speeding fines, even though they can be excessively high here, for what at times is not much over the limit. But the increase in insurance rates that follow, which continues on for years after such a ticket is paid, almost makes going to court and fighting it, a non option for many. As you said, we often know when we've over the limit, and must be accountable for our own actions. The question is, does doing 10-15 mph over, warrant a $1000-1500 increase in insurance premiums per year, for many years, all justified, as you are now a high risk driver, and your behaviour was unsafe? Processing a ticket does have administrative costs associated with it, but don't think there isn't money, and a lot of it, being made at this game! Re: [MBZ] Diesel S Class making a comeback for the poor.
UGLY, are you kidding? This latest S Class has been the best selling S class in the history of MB. For the first time ever, they have outsold the Lexus and the Audi A8 combined. OK, I am prejudiced as I have had my 07 for 3 weeks now and just had to have one for the styling, features and interior comfortwonderful car! Of course I wouldn't have bought it without the 3 year CPO warranty! John On Wed, Jan 19, 2011 at 6:47 PM, OK Don okd...@gmail.com wrote: Yes, it did. But - WHY did they make it so UGLY? Dieselhead wrote: The concept is local inputs, local outputs for local use and local ownership. Each site adapted for local feedstocks and consumption makes economic sense. fmiser wrote: Local. _That_ is what I really want to see. Opposite the big business, big government, big-is-better trend. Big is good for some things - but not _everything_. I see that as a benefit with algae. And if your method benefits from that approach too, I'm all for it. I'm not fond of licensed process or patented organism, though. Dieselhead replied: Do you think it is right to steal something that someone has worked on for 20 years? I don't. Wow! Your jumpy tonght. :) I did not say anything about unlawful use of an idea or process. I did not suggest that anyone else should. I did not say patents and licences are evil. I did not say the developer should not be paid for his effort. The guy who developed the process is one of the most upstanding people you will find. I have no problem paying him for the process license and or having him own a percentage. So maybe he is a good guy. And honest. And he has it at a reasonabl price. But tomorrow he may sell/be forced to sell/overtaken by ADM. And it doesn't take much research to discover how big a bully ADM is. But if they own the rights, it just to bad for the rest of us - 'cause I don't think they will be generous, helpful, or accommodating. Or what about the government deciding they should own the license - 'cause it's necessary for the public good. *shutter* So - like I said - I am not fond of licensed process or patented organisms. That does NOT mean I don't think those licenses apply to me, nor Hey - Why should I have to pay for it? We are Americans! We _deserver_ it!! And certainly I don't want to short-change the guy who poured his life into development. Rather, I don't like how often that power and control is misused. On a side note - even if someone were to duplicate the process without obtaining a license, it is not stealing. Doing so would be wrong, unlawful, and immoral. I would not condone or support such actions. And it could even cause the loss of _potential_ revenue. Never the less, it is still not stealing. -- Philip ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
