Re: [MBZ] DIY replacement of accumulators
The best method I've found for bleeding the system is to loosen the connections at the top of each strut and let the foam out, tighten back up once the fluid coming out is free of air (clear). Start applying penetrating oil now (I really like PB Blaster) to all the connections, bleed screw, etc. etc. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '95 E300, '87 300TD Dieselhead 126die...@gmail.com wrote: Congratulations! if you can, start spraying/coating the high pressure line nuts at the accumulators with penetrating oil of your choice, NOW. If they cause a problem, the line rusts to the nut. Nut to accumulator is generally not a problem, but coat the threads anyway. 1. release hydraulic pressure at the valve 2. loosen/remove the high pressure lines. 3. remove 2 bolts (each) inside that hold the accumulators in place 4. bolt new accumulators to the chassis 5. install/tighten the high pressure lines 6. be sure the valve linkage is hooked up again The system is self-bleeding, or there is a simple procedure to load and unload the car to bleed the system faster. Re: [MBZ] DIY replacement of accumulators
I think you're correct in that the FSM procedures for replacing accumulators and struts basically says that post installation the next steps are run the engine, correct fluid level, check for leaks. However, same FSM has no maintenance procedure for changing the oil and filter. Common sense tells me that the system should be bled, and I don't buy the self-bleeding idea because the SLS control valve is at the low point of the system, not the high side, and the fluid in the accumulators and struts doesn't circulate, it just moves back and forth during the suspension action. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '95 E300, '87 300TD Dan Penoff lwb...@yahoo.com wrote: It's a self bleeding system. I personally would not knowingly buy a car that had ever been run on WVO, but the way this ad was written it seemed that the owner was doing things like careful filtering and using a proper pre-heated system not just pulling up at the back of McDonald's and siphoning grease into the fuel tank. [MBZ] OM603 #17 head for sale
Dieselvolk, My head replacement odessy has taken a new turn; I'm now the proud owner of a #20 head (which has the old style pre-chambers installed) so I've got an extra head. The #17 head I'm selling was pressure tested, checked for flat, and the valve seats were checked. New valve stem seals were installed. It will need inclined injectors (Bosch NA35X) and glow plugs, but comes with lifters and camshaft. You can install with confidence. If interested let me know, special price for list members. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '95 E300, '87 300TD ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] OT: Power Drivers
To continue our kitchen remodel, I was able to borrow a Remington Power Driver from a neighbor and then went to our local lumber yard to get supplies. I got #4 power charges and 2.5 nails, which are supposed to be use to fasten 2x4s to hard concrete. I was told that the nails would be sunk into the boards. My problem, however, is that the nails are not sunk into the boards. They are not even flush with the top surface of the boards. The one that went into the concrete the most compressed the orange plastic piece that centers the end of the nail in the bore of the gun to about half its original length. The one that went into the concrete the least did not compress the orange plastic piece at all. Is this the way it's supposed to work. (Our concrete, at 52 years old, is apparently extra hard.) Re: [MBZ] OT: Power Drivers
They work really good in newish concrete. In older concrete, they take an extra powerful charge, or don't go in as far, but still hold well. I suspect what you have driven in will hold just fine. I even used one to drive the nails into a steel I beam. Although the nails did not penetrate the steel, they held well. In essence, the nails welded into the steel.
