Yup, the spin-on filter.

But they don't actually spin on, they only look like they might.
They tighten down with the center bolt. If he's been spinning
them on maybe that's the problem?

Normally I wait until one of the better informed members answers these

If that doesn't work, my next suggestion would be to coat the gasket with
a diesel oil resistant sealer of some sort (Permatex?), tighten correctly,
and
let set overnight before pumping in the fuel and starting the car. The
gasket

and mating surface would first have to be cleaned with a solvent, of course.

Re: [MBZ] Strange Fuel Filter Problem

2011-12-25 Thread rogerhga
Or you can change the filter the way my MB trained Indies always did and I
never had a problem on either of my 617s. I now use the same method when I
change the secondary filter with no problems either.

1. Obviously, using a wrench or socket, loosen the bolt and then unscrew the
filter by hand.
2. Put on a new washer on the bolt, preferably a copper and not aluminum.
3. Fill the filter with injector cleaner as the cleaner will go straight to the
injectors and they get a good cleaning when you start the engine.
4. Put some diesel fuel on the filter gasket for lube.
5. Spin the filter on the bolt until it fills snug.
6. Use your wrench or socket to tighten the bolt, and I mean tighten good to
seal the filter and compress the new washer.
7. Start the engine and check for leaks. If any, tighten the filter bolt more.
Run engine until all injector cleaner has run out of the filter.

Now this has always worked perfectly on my two old 617s and is only two data
points over a period of about 14 years.
Good luck and Merry Christmas ,

Apparently according to the experts, the shakers are likely to go on for

suppose that there is little point in seriously rebuilding until the

[MBZ] '90 300D 2.5t tranny

2011-12-25 Thread OK Don
Our son borrowed the low mileage 124 (under 300K), and brought it back
because it won't shift from third to fourth. Fluid level is OK. Where do I
start looking for the problem? We've not had any trouble with the tranny
since I bought it from Snook ---

Is that chicken in your first aid kit compartment some sort of Santoria

 One does:

When we got it, it _looked_ like chickens might have lived in it.

There's a whole lot of vetting going on right now for those who would
replace him, and it isn't a pretty picture.

All I remember is a lot of people being called racisists by the mainstream
media and the critics because they questioned his credentials and history.
I myself was on the receiving end of that accusation a few times, just for
asking where he came from and why we never heard of him till election time.

Nah. We'd already started calling it the Chicken Wagon, I figured
it needed a chicken...

It now has a raffia nest too, but is kinda sun-faded.
