[MBZ] Brake Fluid Flushing

2012-07-19 Thread Larry T

Hi Gang -
I plan to use a pressure flusher soon to replace my brake fluid.
My 91 300D has ABS and I was wondering if that adds any complication to
the pressure bleeding of the brake lines? Will the fluid in the ABS
control unit (if it has any) be also replaced?

Thx

I have worked with propane for nearly 25 years in use as a motor fuel for
stationary engines. Copper has always been used as long as I can recall,
especially on the high pressure side, and up to present day. Black iron is
used for natural gas installs (always) and occasionally for LP.

Copper is a no-no for diesel, as it will break down and flake off after a few
years of exposure.

I do see copper commonly used with propane. Our little popup camper has
a propane bottle and a 2-burner stove, and it's all plumbed with soft
copper tube.

With natural gas, the story was/is that the odorant and trace gasses
like hydrogen sulfide caused corrosion of copper pipes. If you see
copper pipe used for natural gas it may be tin-lined internally. Or it
may be a code violation, depending where you are.

Regarding the W211 inline six diesel, I think it is 3.2L, not 3.0L. Mea

My parents have a similar setup from their tank to the house, it
goes probably 20' under the yard. Then copper through the house to
the stove/oven. I remember it being installed back in '80.
My grandmother's runs all copper inside the house from the tank to
the stove and water heater. Who knows how old that is, the house was
built in 1790 or thereabouts.

Our camp has all soft copper for the stove and 3 gas lights. That
would have all been run in the '60s

Re: [MBZ] OT - Ceramic stovetop

2012-07-19 Thread Curt Raymond
Uhhh, my copper oil burner line says thats wrong.

I had to have it replaced last year but that was only because its in the
foundation of the house and needed to be replaced with a coated line so the
lime in the concrete wouldn't eat it. The replacement looks like a copper line
in a clear hose which I'm reasonably sure is what it is...

We're not going to fight about home heating fuel and diesel not being the same
thing are we?

I have worked with propane for nearly 25 years in use as a motor fuel for
stationary engines. Copper has always been used as long as I can recall,
especially on the high pressure side, and up to present day. Black iron is
used for natural gas installs (always) and occasionally for LP.

Copper is a no-no for diesel, as it will break down and flake off after a few
years of exposure.

I did not take Gump out for extended road trips because she did not have cruise
and was manual. After 400 miles, my knees hurt from keeping the Go pedal down.
The 17 year old E300D, on the other hand is a joy to drive all over creation.
Cruise works, and even with dead ACC, I would take her anyplace. Seattle to
Butte, MT or down to Phoenix. Took her from Seattle to DC and then back by way
of Horlando. I got 35mpg all day long, and was doing 660 mile days between
tanks of fuel.

Frosch, on the other hand gets all of 200+ miles on a tank and I would need to
rebuild the old Ford/Philco CC to take her beyond a tanks worth of fuel in a
day.

[MBZ] fog lense replacement

2012-07-19 Thread clay monroe
I sourced some Bosch lamps for Frosch. The glass is not good. One has been
sandblasted and rock chipped. The other must have been hit by a larger rock
and has a larger hole and cracked all the way. I see fleabay has fresh glass
for these things, but I am not able to figure out how the old stuff goes away.
It seems to be sealed to the reflector as a unit.

Do I apply much heat to soften the seal? I did pry, but all that resulted in
was a nice chip off the side of the glass and no movement of the reflector away
from the glass.

assistance please

Four 120V heaters instead of four 240V heaters?
Unlikely to have the power, and did you run four

City/natural gas is very low pressure, or once was, so you
need a fairly large diameter pipe to get 'er done without
significant friction losses. Large-diameter copper pipe
is tres expensive, and always has been when compared to iron.
Iron's increased labor costs are, I'm sure, more than compensated
for by the cheaper material in that size. Small-diameter copper
pipe, suitable for propane's higher pressures, is much easier to
run. and probably doesn't cost 'too much'.

The iron pipe is also pretty hard to damage, like with a
wayward nail.

Mayor was sucking up more than I was; my MB really did/does need a wash and
waxing; his Bimmer really was immaculate and glistening, and I was merely
trying to be truthful, though I did feel a tinge of superiority sitting

You two are a pair of suck ups. I can understand the Mayor being nice

My Passat is 3450 lb. We stopped at 530 miles today, and filled the tank
with 10 gallons of Diesel. Total miles today were 650. It's much coller in
Cedar Rapids than it was in theOKC area!

Hold that thought and ask me again in 10, 20, and 30 years - we'll see
how a VW Diesel stands up. Hard to complain about 53 MPG on cruise control
at the speed limits though.

There's no doubt that modern diesel engines, with all the urea and
whatever gizmoes and computer management are more complex. I think
whether they are longer lasting is yet to be proven, none of them are 30
years old yet. My guess is that the core mechanicals are better, due to
more precise machining and materials technology, but all the ancillary
 devices might not hold up.

[MBZ] It don't pay to mess with us senior citizens

2012-07-19 Thread Gerry Archer

Pensioner shoots two teenagers as he foils attempted armed robbery in
Ocala, Florida

Samuel Williams, 71, is seen chasing and shooting two teenagers who
attempted to rob customers at the Palms internet Cafe in Ocala, Florida on
Friday.
The footage shows one teenager was armed with a gun and the other a bat
when

they burst into the café, but Mr Williams surprised both of them when he
pulled out a gun of his own and opened fire on them.
The pensioner, licensed by the state of Florida to carry a concealed
weapon,

chased the two assailants and kept firing at them as they fled.
This guy kept popping, said one witness. He didn't stop, he just kept
popping, you know? So, I think he shot both of them.
After he started firing, they took off, said Judge Cochran of the Marion
County Sheriff's Office. They fell on top of each other trying to get out
of the café.
Nineteen-year-old suspects Duwayne Henderson and Davis Dawkins were
wounded

by the gunfire and taken to the hospital. Both were arrested and later
released on bail.

Gerry wrote:
Good quality security camera video; well worth watching. Now watch some
of

the media sob sisters accuse this guy of assault with a deadly weapon
because he chased them. In their view he should have warned them or shot
once and then waited until the guy with the gun shot at him, I suppose.
The fact that they both got out on bail was rediculous.
