I had to Google to find out what Acrunis is. It seems to be
cloud storage. So... I think the answer is "yes" - but I don't
quite get the phrase "remote HD running Acronis".

A VirtualBox guest is effectively it's own computer. The
memory, harddrive, network card, etc. are "borrowed" from the
host but the guest OS is typically totally unaware. So if the
Acronis thing would work with a normal computer, then there is a
very high probability it will work with a VirtualBox guest.

If I'm understanding the question...

It's good to hear success stories about todays kids - we hear so few of
them.

Yes, I am sure yours all turned out fine too. Mine have done well.
I have believed that a lot of a kid's attitude and responsibility are
formed before they turn 5 or 6. IF they learn consequences and
physics (laws) and bible/sunday school and responsibilities, by then
they turn out pretty good, as lon as the freedom and responsibilities
grow along with them. #1 son was pretty much autonomous by the time
he turned 16. He paid most of his way through college and grad
school and now has a high paying job. #1 daughter had different
academic abilities and the foreign exchange student thing made her
kind of a special case.

Re: [MBZ] was Flat wheels NOW oil!

2012-09-25 Thread Randy Bennell
I change the oil in my truck about every 5 to 6K kilometers - so about 3
to 4K miles.
It gets somewhat dirty near the end and I seem to use some oil which
does not seem to happen early on after a change.
I may just not be watching close enough so maybe it uses a wee bit
throughout but is only noticable once it is down a liter.
The truck is a basic 02 F150 Supercrew with the 5.4 engine and about
165K miles on it.

Agreed, that's why I'm replacing the Delvac after 3k miles, I'll keep the M1 as
long as oil analyses shows that soot load is within spec.

Re: [MBZ] SOLVING LOTS OF 123 PROBLEMS AT ONCE

2012-09-25 Thread Dieselhead
I don't think that Rick enlarged the hole beyond factory. If you
reread the original post, he took a drill with his fingers and
cleaned out the crud. I don't remember the drill size, but it is
around 3/32.

This operation is similar to blowing out the vac line and intake
manifold nipple on OM60x engines with poor turbo response.

Those nipples are not just connectors, there is also a restrictor in
there. You may now be getting too much vacuum to your transmission. If
your shifts get too soft that would be an indication. Or perhaps you
have a small leak somewhere else and the now higher vacuum flow is
compensating. If everything else is working properly, you should not
need to drill out the restrictors.

Re: [MBZ] SOLVING LOTS OF 123 PROBLEMS AT ONCE

2012-09-25 Thread Dieselhead

It was discussed on some incarnation of this list (Veterans,
Dickarde, Okiebenz) years ago. It was also discussed as part of the
repair for the broken small nipple on the $150 vacuum hose from the
pump to the brake booster. (Small brass tubing, epoxy, and drill out
to be sure the epoxy is cleared.)

What drove you to try this technique? I'd never have thought such a thing.

Did anything come out with the drill bit when you did it? Some
little bit of schmutz plugging the line?

I haven't been really happy with how my 1982 300td has been running,
shifting, shutting off, etc for quite a while, but the car has been
soldiering on.

Saturday, I took about a 3/32" drill bit and reamed out the holes in
the vacuum fitting on the main vacuum line between the vacuum pump and
the brake booster. Mine is the style with the plastic fitting with two
nipples that supply most of the vacuum system.
